Veronica Jones: Parents killed girl by making her drink too much grape soda, water, authorities say

The title sounds like a joke, doesn't it? Or at least the kind of death you would see in a so-bad-it's-good B-rated movie. Unfortunately, this isn't a corny death in a B-movie or the punchline to a bad joke. 5 year old, Alexa Linboom, was punished for stealing a couple of grape sodas from her mother in law by being forced to drink more than two liters of soda and water in two hours which "caused the sodium level in her body to go down and caused her brain to swell" She was later brought to the hospital and soon declared brain dead. This happened two years ago and after further looking into the case, it has been declared a homicide. In addition, the District attorney stated that there were other signs of abuse, he did not give specifics.

To say these people are cruel is an understatement. This kind of torture is horrendous. A 5 year old took grape soda from her mother-in-law, she wasn't doing anything worse than what any other child would do. Then there's the unmentioned other torture she was put through. What was it? We don't know, but it's apparently too awful to mention. Her parents, Randall Lee Vaughn and Mary Lavonne Vaughn, are set to go on trail in October, and I can't wait to see this little girl get justice.

  2. That's terrible! I'm sure her parents didn't intend for their little girl to die, but I think it's sufficient to say they took her punishment a bit too far. At least this little girl's soul is at peace.

  3. That's cruel. Hope the system actually gives them a punishment fit for the crime

  4. That's horrible! While I see how her parents thought that the punishment they administered fr the crime, I think it was taken a little too far and I hope that they regret their choices considering their daughter is now dead.

  7. This is crazy! I understand the principle of not stealing, but the consequence does not match the situation. So I guess to the parents, if you steal a can of soda, you don't deserve to live???
