Deep under the New Mexican desert, a detector has reported that there are excessive radiation levels in a nuclear waste site. Luckily, no workers have been exposed to the waste and it has been reported that there is no risk for the publics health. This is the first time since 1999 that this has been indicated which is saying that there's a high concentration of radiation. The leak has been closed off from ventilation and it is said that it will not further effect anything else.
I think that it's worrisome that the alarm went off despite them being able to avoid the catastrophic effect that it could have had. I'm not saying that they were negligent in containing the waste, but they were able to avoid every worst-case scenario and that doesn't always happen. I think that whoever is managing the waste site needs to enforce the containment units so that this is unable to happen again.
