Patience Henderson 1st Period; Newlywed dies after BASE jump attempt in Zion National Park in Utah

A newlywed couple Amber Bellows, 28 and her husband Clayton Butler, 29 decided to go base jumping in Utah's Zion National Park. The couple were said to be experienced base jumpers, in which you jumo off of fixed objects. They went base jumping off Mount Kinesava which is a 7,276 foot peak and is also illegal to jump off of. Saturday morning they went base jumping and Bellows went first and something went wrong with her parachute and it didn't open properly which cause Butler to go after her only he couldn't reach her. Butler, then hiked out of the remote area to find help, alerting park authorities at about 6:30 p.m. recovery teams located Bellows', body around 10 a.m. Sunday. She was then helicoptered to the nearest ambulance. "Both Clayton and Amber are conscientious, experienced BASE jumpers and this was a tragic accident," Joshua Lloyd, her manager and videographer, said Monday. "Amber will be missed throughout the entire community and we ask for privacy and respect for the family at this time."

 Analysis:

This is unbelievably, this is crazy. I don't know how people actually do these things and aren't scared to get hurt. Not saying that this was any of their faults, but it was illegal to be there anyway and to base jump off the Mount Kinesava so why would they do it? I don't understand the things that people do sometimes, it's crazy. But, I feel they need to check and make sure that every time before they jump they make sure everything looks okay. They should never let anyone go out there like that without checking their safety first.

  1. You have to be insane to do this, I know I never could. The fact that it is illegal to BASE jump in the park should have deterred them though. Still so tragic.

  2. Its really unfortunate that she dies, buts it also unfortunate that we still think we're better than rules. There are reasons why certain rules are put in place.
