To start off the construction of a skyscraper in L.A., soon to be the tallest west of the Mississippi, the workers succeeded in accomplishing the longest continuous pour of concrete. The foundation will take about 2 weeks to harden and the total weight of the concrete while dry was 84 million pounds. It's going to be a $1 million project by Korean Airlines and the pour was confirmed by Guinness to be the longest continuous concrete pour.
I love the concept of world records so I found this to be incredibly cool. The idea of yet another skyscraper being built in America is so boring, however, when you add to it the awesome fact of it being a record-breaking event it becomes super exciting. The architectural side of the record is also really cool to me since architecture may be a career I want to pursue.
