After an avalanche Saturday afternoon, 7 people were reported missing. Early Sunday, two of them were found dead at the top of the avalanche. The skiers were wearing avalanche detectors which helped the rescuers find them. Officials say that it was the 7 skiers who had triggered the avalanche in the area with reported treacherous and steep conditions. The other 5 skiers were found alive and have been treated.
I find this so sad because not only did two of them lose their lives, but it also could have been prevented. It was reported that the mountain wasn't safe and they all still chose to ride it anyways. Even though they were smart in wearing the avalanche detectors, it would have been better if they hadn't put themselves in the position where an avalanche was a very likely possibility. I hope that the survivors heal quickly and the two that lost their lives rest in peace.
