Carsin Ablon, 1st Period APUSH, Texas Could Turn Blue If Republicans Don't Adapt

Senator Rand Paul, speaking at the Harris County Republican Party Dinner in Houston, stated that Texas could become a Democratic state in ten years unless the Republican Party makes some changes. Rand Paul, being a Texas born senator, has stated that the Texas Republicans need to be a more accepting party as seen in the seemingly outdated quote "That doesn't mean we give up on what we believe in, but it means we have to be a more welcoming party. We have to welcome people of all races. We need to welcome people of all classes -- business class, working class". Paul also stated that more immigrants and minority groups should be accepted into the party to create the Republican vision of a working class.

I am thrilled to hear that Texas, a Republican dominant state, feels the presence of the growing Democratic power in Dallas, Austin, and Houston. However, I find it somewhat sad that a party would even consider dropping some of their beliefs just to counter the growing political power of another party. Due to the nature of the popular vote, demographic and overall inclusiveness can be a major power in determining a winner. And when a party has to mention changing their beliefs in order to maintain the popular advantage over a threatening party, how can that party truly function? By maintaining the popular vote, i feel that the Republican Party has lost touch with their demographic and ideals; however I am not complaining.
