Elon Musk Steps Down as Chairman in Deal With S.E.C. Over Tweet About Tesla

Elon Musk does a lot in this time that is a step in the right direction. Most of the time it feels like the powerful people are dragging us back or putting themselves ahead. Elon is centered on a mindset for the future and helping people. SpaceX, Tesla, and the boring company all are meant to improve the future and improve the lives of people. But when he makes a tweet that's partially a joke that is untrue that makes stock prices change he gets sued by the sec. The capitalist culture we have created surrounding business in America is clearly not in alignment with what is actually best for the world or even America. we are entirely focused on setting an unhealthy unfair game that is not going to last very long at this rate.

Elon Musk Settled With the S.E.C., but Tesla’s Troubles Aren’t Over-Avery Johnson

Tesla is struggling to make a profit causing people doubting the company and believing stock will fall. Elon Musks behavior is often unpredictable and the S.E.C. wants more responsible people on Tesla's board. Elon has been operating and deciding all decisions with Tesla for the past ten years but, soon he will be forced to have people to monitor his relations to investors in the company. After Elon's post and the decisions of the S.E.C. people believe he was let off too easy. Tesla is now being closely inspected for Elon's behavior and the hopefully profitable Model 3s.
Social media and tweeting can have a great impact of someones personal or company image. Bad behavior can directly effect a company and its profitability. Watching what is being posted to control the public and investors perception is especially important for a company as large scale as tesla.

Ted Cruz vs. Beto O Rourke

Ted Cruz and Beto O Rourke are both competing for U.S. senate seat. They had their second debate here in Dallas in SMU to show the people here about their stances on the topics of immigration, Trump, and guns.
Analysis: I wasn't able to listen to a lot of this debate when I was hearing it last Sunday, but from what I did hear, I stand with Beto O Rourke, because he had some really good points in the things he was saying and the things he had to say about Ted Cruz also allowing him to contradict himself. In conclusion I really hope Beto O Rourke wins U.S. senate seat, if I was old enough I would definitely be voting for him.

BA apologizes after 380,000 customers hit in cyber attack

On September 6, British Airways apologized after announcing that a two-week long attack compromised credit card information of 380,000 customers on its website and app. The airline found out on Wednesday that bookings made on August 21 and September 5 infiltrated in a "very sophisticated and malicious crime" attack, BA chairman and Chief Executive Alex Cruz said. They immediately contacted customers when the extent of the breach became clear. Around 380,000 card payments were compromised, the airline said, with hackers obtaining names, street and email addresses, credit card numbers, expiry dates and security codes - sufficient information to steal from accounts. The attack came 15 months after the carrier suffered a massive computer system failure at London’s Heathrow airport this left 75,000 customers stranded over a holiday weekend.

Analysis: With what has been going on with this company I don't think many customers should still trust it anymore or maybe the company needs to develop something new to stop these things from happening weather its hiring someone different to keep security on their platforms or develop new platforms with better security, because its' just outrageous to have 380,000 customers' credit card details stolen. What was good was that they compromised the payments on those cards, but if someone hacked into this then they must still have other details about these customers.

Housing Market Slows, as Rising Prices Outpace Wages-Avery Johnson

The housing market had slowed causing pries to be cut to attract buyers. The market is getting more and more expensive pushing people out, even buyers. The slowdown of the market will most like not last and the increasing interest rates have only caused prices to become more expensive. People are becoming reluctant to sell their homes because they are worried of being unable to find a new one. Building materials are becoming more expensive, labor costs are rising, and restricted zones cause building house more unaffordable.

We should not be building houses that people do not have the money to buy but, it is unaffordable to build houses for the pricing people can afford. Gentrification is also a problem caused by the increase of housing prices, when people are pushed out of neighborhoods because they can no longer pay for the cost of living.  The wages people receive compared to the expensive cost of buying and renting should become closer in value.

The Bill Cosby Case

Bill Cosby is being incarcerated for the next 3-10 years in a state prison for Sexual assault and drugging charges. Nearly 60 women have accused him for sexual assault and drugging. His case about these women who have been accusing him has been going on for the past 3 years. His arrest was made on September 25, 2018.
Analysis: I kind of like seeing that Bill Cosby is having pay for the things he did to these women, but at the same time I'm very surprised to see that an 81 year old is being sent to a state prison for things he did many years ago. I wonder how he will be treated in prison from his age and I wonder about things that will go on as he is there. I'm also interested in seeing how long he'll be spending in prison from these next 3-10 years.

Courtney McColley- The Power of #MeToo

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/29/us/politics/kavanaugh-blasey-metoo-supreme-court.html

President Trump's nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the supreme court is facing some uncertainty due to the recent accusations of sexual assault against the judge. Events later this week may reveal if the nominee did or did not sexually assault accusor Christine Blasely Ford when they were teenagers.  The emotional fight over this nomination shows how the #MeToo movement has slowly integrated itself into  American culture. The #MeToo movement is a platform that has helped many women speak out about being sexually harassed. The author of this article states that Christine would never have the ability to have the voice that she did without this movement.

This article was published on Saturday, September 29. It was written for the purpose of explaining how the Kavanaugh battle shows the power that the #MeToo movement has on society. It's great that people are being able to speak up, but the problem is that the definition of sexual assault is so subjective. People are reporting feeling uncomfortable by just being looked at. But that's not saying that what Kavanaugh is being accused of is completely inappropriate. The Kavanaugh can be loosely related back to pre-revolution times when the colonists were denied the basic right as Englishmen of innocent until proven guilty. Right now they are investigating Kavanaugh to find the truth, but until they find proof that he did assault Christine people are assuming he's guilty.

More than 800 dead in Indonesia- Madison Malonson

"Indonesia earthquake and tsunami death toll surpasses 830"
                        https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/30/asia/indonesia-earthquake/index.html

On the Indonesian Island, Sulawesi, the death toll has risen up to 832. A 7.5 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami with 3 meter tall waves, hit the island and caused mass destruction. The people are still in need of food, water, and shelter. The aftershocks are also bad as well, residents are afraid to return to their own homes. There are so many dead bodies that they have to bury them in mass graves.
I think that this is a tragedy that needs more awareness, and we should be doing everything we can to help those in need. When I read this article, it reminded of when there was a huge earthquake in Haiti. People all across the world, put relief efforts to help those affected. I hope that this gets as much attention, and that people can help those in Indonesia.

Isadora Lilly- Millennials are Ending Another Trend in America: Divorce

Millienials get the blame for the disappearance of many trends favored by previous generations, and their latest target is divorce. Studies claim that divorce rates are declining under millenials, having already decreased an enormous 18 percent over the period of time between 2008 to 2016. This data resulted from studies by sociology professor Philip Cohen from the University of Maryland, and its analysis indicates that younger couples of Generation X and most prominently millenials are making more informed decisions when it comes to marriage as a result of waiting longer to tie the knot. Cohen has supported this idea, saying, "One of the reasons for the decline is that the married population is getting older and more highly educated."

Despite this decrease in divorce, it does not seem that marriage is increasing, but is rather decreasing as well. This is very interesting to observe, as more and more people prefer to live to together, for some even raise children, still without legalizing their union.

This makes me curious as to the reasons why this is preferred, and whether in the future having a relationship without marriage will become a normality. This just goes to show the influence of new ideas and generations versus tradition, and its possibly significant impacts on generations to come.

Migrant Children Moved Under Cover of Darkness to a Texas Tent City-Avery Johnson

Hundreds of migrant children have been taken across the country in the middle of the night by bus and brought to a tent city in the desert of West Texas. In the past most migrant children have stayed in private foster homes while receiving schooling and legal representatives for their immigration cases. However, in Tornillo, Texas undocumented children are put into groups of 20, separated by gender, and lined up in bunks where, they are not given proper schooling and legal services are limited. The federal government is struggling to find room for the 13,000 detained migrant children, the largest number there has ever been in the United States.

This is important because the children are not given the proper care and nurture they need. It is necessary to find a place for these innocent children to live and help them while they are going though traumatic experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Lesly Marquez- Disadvantaged girls change their communities by learning to code

Summery:

Makoko is known as the largest "floating sum" built on a lagoon in Lagos Nigeria. It contains many rickety shacks that stand on stilts on polluted water and canous that transport through the maze of narrow canals.Lagos is a thriving economy built on oil, finance, and manufacturing. The city is now considered Nigeria's Silicon Valley, with Facebook and Google opening offices there earlier this year.
This article basically informs us that girls in Africa believe that men shouldn't be the one to too all the hard work or dominate the technology industry. Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarian a computer programer said that when she first visited Moko she was surprised to see the condition of human beings "Most girls are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty. Many of them are not thinking education, a plan for the future."In 2012 a free program called GirlsCoding was made by Pearls Africa Foundation to educate and excite girls about programming. Now girls are creating their own programs and solving problems too. These girls all have future plans and love coding and working with technology. This program has been around for not so long but will continue to help girls out.It is in fact spreading out into more states in Africa.

I think its is amazing that this program exist.Girls have more opportunities now and thats great. I don't think men should do all the hard work  and I believe women can do just as much as the men.We can do it all! I love that this program because of the opportunities its giving these young girls. They are able to change their community. I like that a lot of these girls are happy that they got this program and they seem to be very happy with what they are learning. This just comes to show that there are still other places around the world who are still struggling with the equality of women. Both men and women should be equal.

Jude Holland - Bob Inglis Raising Awareness about Climate Change in Conservative America

Bob Inglis, a former Republican Congressman is on a mission to convert conservative Americans to accept and support solutions for climate change. Although scientific studies as well as most world governments have verified global warming as fact, Conservative Americans typically refuse to believe what they think is a hoax put on by liberals to gain votes, but Inglis is a notable exception. He holds regular meetings with members of his party, and although most attendants at the meetings scoff at the idea of global warming, almost 30% of the attendees, particularly younger Republicans, have changed their views. Inglis has also proposed a tax on carbon, which would help to limit the effects of greenhouse gasses from fossil fuels, and promote clean energy usage.

To me this is important for many reasons, but mostly because it could mean the beginning of real climate change laws in the United States. Democrats, who aren't currently in power, support helping the environment, but no major legislation can really be passed without support from the opposing party. With support from a new wave of younger, more progressive republicans, we could see changes in our environmental policies, however most republicans, (including Trump) have expressed harsh disagreement with the facts of global warming, and endorse fossil fuel power plants, coal mining, etc. Climate change is negatively affecting our world, and if we don't work to find solutions soon, many things we know about planet Earth begin to turn for the worse.

Sydney Ewing- Hurricane Cowboy

Patrick Mckann, aka the Hurricane Cowboy, is a Virginia horse trainer who rescues animal victims of Hurricane Florence. He and his friends take a traditional cowboy approach to rescue by getting “down and dirty,” instead of waiting around in meetings with of volunteer relief groups. Mckann saves mostly horses, cows, chickens, donkeys and other farm animals that would have starved or drowned.

Mckann received received his nickname from when he first delivered relief for victims of Hurricane Harvey. He first packed up his truck and trailer and drove to Texas when he heard the news of millions of animals drowning from the storm on the radio. Mckann drives from his home in Virginia and delivers donated supplies and rescue efforts to people in small towns who are typically “forgotten about.” He and his friends have had to travel by boat, travel by tractor and walk through miles of flood water that has come up as far as their chests to save abandoned animals after their owners were forced to evacuate. This story is nice, “fluffy" and heartwarming, which is a pleasant contrast to all of the bad that happens on the daily. It is refreshing to hear about a man and his team pulling horses out of flooding ditches and delivering relief supplies to the inhabitants of small towns. Mckann and his group are glad to help out, stating that they’re “just cowboys out here doing [their] job.” I appreciate seemingly altruistic acts, as opposed to acts that are only political in nature. It’s a good change of pace.

Should We Teach About Consent in K-12? Brett Kavanaugh's Home State Says Yes - Miranda Farrar

Back in 2016, a Maryland middle schooler, Maeve Sanford-Kelly, was horrified while listening to the sexual assault stories of Donald Trump, Brock Turner, and Bill Cosby. She wanted to make a change, and luckily, her mother, Ariana Kelly, had an idea. As a delegate in the Maryland state legislature, she introduced a bill requiring schools to cover consent in their sex education class. The bill failed the first time it was proposed, and similar bills have also failed in other states. Many believe that teaching about consent condones sex. Luckily, the Maryland bill was passed the second time it was submitted. Many student groups campaigned for this bill, wanting the best for our future generations. One of the teens, Matt Post, now goes to Yale University, where Brett Kavanaugh went to school. Matt still sees rape culture, and he says his friends don't have a complete understanding of what healthy relationships look like. Slowly, with bills like these going into effect, education around consent can improve.

Sexual assault is a topic that today, victims are forcing others to finally address. This article states that about 8% of girls and 0.7% of boys are raped by the time they are eighteen. With statistics like that, we can't pretend that nothing is happening. I'm glad to be able to shine some positive light on this topic by writing about people who are making changes. In this article, it's actually a lot of younger people and student groups who are the ones campaigning for change, while older people in positions of power think that bills like these will have negative impacts. Both now and in the late 1800s, people seem to believe that pretending sex doesn't exist will lead to less pre-marital sex and pregnancies. Just as people today think that teaching about consent condones sex, in 1872, the Comstock Act, banning contraceptives, was passed because people believed that contraceptives were "obscene" and "promoted promiscuity". In reality, people just want to stay safe. Margaret Sanger was a woman who was super important to the introduction and availability of birth control. She spent her whole life trying to make contraceptives available to women, therefore breaking the law many times (definitely look her up, she accomplished so much). There is a video in the article that compares consent to a cup of tea. It covers multiple scenarios regarding consent that people usually have questions about. This video is being used in schools like Maeve Sanford-Kelly's school because it is so informative and easy to understand. Take three minutes out of your day to watch it, because change starts with us.

Siobhan Crummey - FBI Kavanaugh investigation

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/30/politics/fbi-brett-kavanaugh-investigation/index.html

This week, we have all seen the name Kavanaugh all over the news. The investigation, the testimonies, and the conflicting stories. Even Donald Trump tweeted about it (though we shouldn't be that surprised about that). The hearings of Kavanuagh and and Christine Ford took place on Thursday the 27th, and since then everyone is talking about it. SNL did a bit on it, and every news station has their own take. Kavanaugh has said things like "One of my closest friends to this day is a woman who has been sexually assaulted", and "in my younger years I kept very detailed calendars," stating that he would've written in down if he went to a party. He also frequently mentioned that he liked beer, he drank a lot of beer, and that he often drank so many beers he blacked out. But nobody seemed to touch on the fact that he possibly had a drinking problem. Meanwhile Christine Ford gave a detailed description of her assault, saying that she could feel his weight and that him and his friend were laughing at her own expense. Frankly, it is disgusting that anyone would even think that she could lie about sexual assault especially when she has nothing to gain from it.

Historically, this has been happening for hundreds of years and that fact that its just now becoming a big deal is long overdue. This piece was intended to the masses, to inform people, and so people can know who many or may not be becoming a senator. This was written from the point of view of a journalist, who knows much more on the subject. This is important because a possible rapist could be deciding laws of this country.

Two police officers killed in shooting in Small Mississippi town- Nik Puri

At about 5:00 AM on September 29, 2018, 2 officers were killed during a shootout in Brookhaven, Mississippi. The names of the fallen officers were Zach Moak and James White. The suspect's name is Marquis Aaron Flowers, who has had a history of leading officers on high-speed chases. Chief Kenneth Collins said in a press conference on Saturday Morning, "Nothing ever happens with gun fights in this town, but this morning something happened. We lost two of our brave officers. You never know when it's your last day." While the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is still investigating, they said that the officers were wearing body cameras, but declined to release the footage. As Brookhaven Mayor Joe Cox said in a brief statement, "Our community is strong and will pull together as a family." Those fallen officers will be missed and they are a good example of how the privileges we take for granted, don't come easy.

This article was published on September 30, 2018 by Kristine Phillips and was updated at 9:34 AM ET. This implies that the information provided in this article is current and up-to-date. Before I read this article, I always had the idea that the police officers were in the wrong because of misusing their power and killing a person because of their race. It wasn't until I read this article that I realized that police officers are just doing their job, which is to protect their community. Similarly, this article is related to the shootings of 5 police officers on July 7, 2016 in Dallas Texas because the perpetrator open fired and killed the officers on a public street. Moreover, this article relates to U.S history because it shows that defending what makes this country great isn't an easy task and that we should be more appreciative of the people who work hard to defend are lives. Kristine Phillips's article is targeted toward's the citizens of the United States and to give them a summary of what happened. The purpose of this article was to provide the public with information about the shooting in Brookhaven and is important because it's an example of men who gave up their life to protect their hometown.

Earthquake Terror continues- Madi Haggard

The aftermath of Indonesia's earthquake is devastating.  While the death toll increases, rescuers are being sent out to look for survivors.  The earthquake happened on Friday, marking a 7.56 on the scale.  Reports have come back that many people are trapped in and under collapsed buildings and damaged roads and disrupted communications meant information from specific areas became limited.  First aid kits were being dropped in by aircraft, and videos aired showing the disasters left behind.

Elon Musk Steps Down as Tesla’s Chairman in Settlement With S.E.C. Over Go-Private Tweet

Elon Musk reached a deal with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Saturday that forces him to give up the chairman’s post for three years. He was under pressure from his lawyers and investors of Tesla. This settlement will cause him to step down as chairman for 3 years and pay a $20 million fine.

Analysis: To see Elon Musk have to step down from his own company for 3 years and pay a $20 million fine seems pretty sad to me and I wonder what he'll be doing through those three years and how the company will run and continue through out the time without him.

Washington Braces for Battle as F.B.I. Contacts Potential Witnesses to Kavanaugh Claims

Thursday September 28, 2018 Judge Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. As we all know President Donald J. Trump appointed Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be a judge in the U.S. Supreme Court. Not long after that, a woman by the name of Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of attempted rape, back when they were upperclassmen in high school together around the early 80's.
Of course the Judge negates these accusations, but of course someone that is guilty would immediately deny it right? Now this may still be true, but now the FBI are trying to get in touch with a potential witness that claims to have been there on that faithful night. This person says that they will be able to shed some light on Kavanaugh's innocence. I don't know what to think about this, what do you guys think? Comment Below

ERYN FAYSON- Cosby prosecutor asks for 5 to 10 years in prison

Coby prosecutor asks for 5 to 10 years in prison
By MARYCLAIRE DALE and MICHAEL R. SISAK
YESTERDAY

Bill Cosby a man known for being the "American Dad" off of the Bill Cosby Show has been
doing some horrible things toward women. Bill Cosby prosecutors Monday ask for 5 to 10 years for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman. People have different opinions on Cosby's character and what he should be charged with. The district attorney saying "nobody is above the law". Cosbys defense attorney John Green said  "What does a 81 year old man do in prison"?

Andrea Constand the women who he is accused of sexually assaulting and drugging mother spoke saying " I can only hope and pray that some sense of peace and faith can be restored back on our family. The victims cannot be un-raped. Unfortunately, all we can do is hold the perpetrator accountable.

This article was produced September 23rd,2018. Months back I have heard many allegations towards Bill Cosby but the court still has not made a decision. I do not agree with people trying to use his age to get out of the actions he has committed. A age should not determine whether he should be charged or not it should be by the things he has done. This article was written because its giving people more information about the Bill Cosby case and what is going on in the system. This article relates to history because now that we have trial by jury there is a chance where people can get justice when people commit crimes or do bad things.  This article is relevant to our lives today because there are so many thing that people have done that we do not no about. It may be because there scared to speak up or what the person will do to them. It is never too late to get justice and hopefully these girls that are coming out and speaking of the actions that Cosby has done, then other people will confront things they have been through that should have been addressed to the court.

Man charged with killing 2 Arizona girls who went missing
Today September 16,2018

Tucson, Arizona- A registered sex offender,Christopher Matthew Clements age 36, jailed since last year has been charged in kidnapping and killing of two Arizona girls. They went missing in 2012 and 2014.  His murdering and kidnapping charges are in the deaths of 6 year old Isabel Celis and13 year old Maribel Gonzalez.

Celis went missing from her Tuscon home in April 2012, and her body discovered March 2017.Gonzalez body was discovered in June 2014, not far from Celis remains would be found 3vyears later.

Clements had already been in jail facing other charges. Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall called the identification if Clements as the killer of the girls "long overdue."The heart wrenching tragedies of Maribel and Gonzalez have been compounded by a very long, long wait for justice she said.

Analysis: It is great to see the bad guy get caught and bring justice for the families that had to go through these tragedies. Clements is a sick man and it is time for him to face the actions he has done. I can't imagine what it felt like for these families day by day and years passing and police still doesn't know what happened to their child.

Poll: Teens say social media makes them feel better
By: Barbara Ortutay

Todays teens are constantly on their smartphones, many kids on the daily check social media "constantly". Todays teens prefer texting over face-to-face communication.

A new poll says these same teens also say that social media has a positive effect on their lives, helping them feel good about themselves, less lonely, and less depressed. This poll was released Monday by Common Sense Media, a San Francisco-based nonprofit group focused on kids' use of media and technology.

Today, 44 percent of teens say their primary social network is Snapchat, making it the most popular social media app, followed by Instagram(which is owned by Facebook) at 22 percent.

Analysis : I think this article is very accurate. The poll was taken in March and April among 1,141 13- to 17- year-olds nationwide. I view everyday people and teenagers on there phones rather than communicating face to face. Social Media is a way to escape whether your bored or you want to show people what your up to.

4 Year Old Brother Thrown To His Death - Rose Tharp

Shimron Smith was thrown to his death from his seventh story apartment by his brother of 20

This is relates to history because it shows how political trouble can cover up all the other things happening. We are all focused on the politics (Like Donald Trump and midterm elections) that we don't notice the people that are dying, that just become a percentage.

Ford and Kavanaugh hearings

After hearing both Christine Blasey Ford’s and Judge Brett M Kavanaugh’s testimonies, I like many other Americans cant help but feel the emotion that was being presented to the Senate judiciary  committee on Thursday. Ford recently presented to the public that she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh who is trying to be confirmed to the Supreme Court, when they were in high school. Just this week we have heard both parties on trial, and both sides have stated that they are a hundred percent sure on their claims. Ford remembers being shoved into a room and sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh, but Kavanaugh claims he Wasent even present when the situation took place. In Fords testimony you could hear the pain in her voice and the see the physical trembling of her body. When she described the one part of the situation that was the most brutal “The uproarious laughter” being shared between Kavanaugh and another boy in the room as Kavanaugh assaulted Ford , brought tears to Fords eyes.

Analysis:  This article was written by Kristine Phillips on september 29th. I Found the article extremely interesting because it focused more on the emotional parts of the hearing, instead of the political sides. The article also showed sides of Kavanaughs testiomony where he got agrivated or snipped at some of the Senators (mainly the Democrat Senators). While Ford’s testimony was from the heart and was trying to answer the questions to the best of her ability, Kavanaugh often answered the questions in anger, or didn’t answer the questions at all. Thankfully there will be a FBI investigation to look further into this case, which will hopefully alter the Senators decisions on whether they want Judge Brett M Kavanagh to represent the ideas of the Supreme Court.

Christine Blasey Ford’s sisters-in-law say Kavanaugh’s testimony was ‘evasive’ and ‘belligerent’

Samuel Martin - Washington Rolls Back Safety Rules Inspired by Deepwater Horizon Disaster

Washington Rolls Back Safety Rules Inspired by Deepwater Horizon Disaster

Summary:
President Trump's White House administration has recently revoked safety law put in place by President Obama, concerning offshore oil and gas drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. These laws were put into place after the famous Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010, where 4.9 million barrels of oil (over 157 million US gallons) were dumped into the sea causing tons of damage to coastal states as well as the birds and fish that live in the sea. Included in these rules are ones which force drilling companies to install "blowout preventer" and have them certified by 3rd party companies. These laws were revoked because they were putting a burden on the oil industry, "without increasing the safety of the workers or protection of the environment," according to the statement released by the current administration. This essentially means that the government and the affected companies are more interested in their economy than keeping the Earth clean. Environmentalists are worried that with a relaxation of policy, industries will have less concern for the end users of the products that they are drilling for.

Analysis:
This article was written September 27, 2018, which means that it has the most up to date information and opinions, but it means that the issue is not final and ideas and information is subject to change. I remember reading about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on a SAT test, and the effects it had on the millions of birds and fish, so I already knew a bit about how devastating this was to the environment and how the new policies would make sure this would never happen again. The repeal of these laws are like when congress repealed the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) with the 21st amendment in the early 1900's. This article was written for everybody in America, to tell them about the effects of a past disaster and how the rules that were enacted to prevent it were revoked. This article was written by Coral Davenport, who writes from Washington D.C. about the United States environmental policy, with a focus on climate change. Davenport covered these rulings when President Obama created them in an interview with the former president, so she really understands the positive and negative impacts that this will have. This article is important because the Earth is the only home we will get, and we need to see how we can help the economy but also make sure that we don't ruin the earth just for economic profit. If we can't balance both sides of this issue, we will kill all of the fish and birds and everything that they are connected to, and we could eventually die from the lack of food in the world.

KADAR PRICE

Are Museums Still Important in the Digital Age?

A fire destroyed and engulfed the 2 century old Brazilian Museum. The museum lost over 20 million of its possessions,so the question is, do we need a museum in a tech savvy era? In my personal opinion we will always need both, what if technology gets destroyed or malfunctions, we would have to go back to the old ways of finding information. In this case it was the old resources that have been destroyed, but it's okay cause we have our tech to fall back on. I think each outlet of information has its benefits, when you go to a museum your experiencing the information first hand, it is authentic. But on the other hand technology allows us to find things in many different ways and experience the information given to us virtually through a high def scope, but it is important to know thhat we are seeing this info through other peoples eye and not first hand. So when it all comes down to it, I think this debate is up for interpretation.

Telltale Employee Sues the Company - John Lunzer

Last week, when popular game company Telltale Games fired 90% of their staff on the spot with no severance package and shut down the company pretty much, 275 pissed off employees had no job and no way to support their families. One of the employees, Vernie Roberts Jr, filed a first class action on the Studio in defense of all his fellow employees. He noted that they should have been notified of the "impending termination" 60 days prior to it occurring int he name of the state of California's WARN Act. This 60 day period provided a weak spot for Roberts to hammer in as many faults as possible that Telltale committed during that time. Some included overworking and missing salaries that were never paid off. Roberts also proclaims that any off this 275 fellow laid off employees can join in and support the lawsuit. Telltale also exclaimed that their current project, "The Walking Dead: The Final Season" would be put in the hands of "potential partners", which would surely cause political controversy for Telltale fans worldwide.

Trump Uses The “She Was Drunk” Excuse

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qvajbq/trumps-she-was-drunk-argument-is-a-disaster-for-republicans

Trump recently used the accusation that Deborah Ramirez was “drunk” as an excuse for the fact that she was sexually assault. This type of reaction to people opening up about what has happened to them is all too common, and to see that the current president has made the same conclusion is sickening. This type of victim-blaming in the face of sexual assault is something that many people, including officials, have participated in and made prevalent. It should be less widely accepted, but these assaulters getting off the hook because of some far-fetched excuse has been going on for far too long.
Throughout history, sexual assault victims have not gotten justice for what has happened to them, especially when a white man is being accused. So many people accused have gotten off scott-free because of their “status” and “potential” while their victims have to deal with their trauma forever.

Donald Trump addresses the United Nations General Assembly -- Mary Kate Madden

On September 26, 2018, President Donald Trump took the stage at the United Nations General Assembly. His speech incited laughs from the audience twice. He trashed the "ideology of globalism" and said that the United States will not "be taken advantage of any longer." He applauded North Korea for their denuclearization efforts. He also talked about the "corrupt dictatorship" of Iran. This is important because the whole presidency of Donald Trump is going to be a stressed point of American History someday. There is so much controversy surrounding his presidency and him as a person. He is crass and rude at the UN General Assembly and the nations were laughing at him. That says something.

Bill Cosby sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison -- Mary Kate Madden

Bill Cosby, formerly "America's Dad", has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison due to sexual assault. On April 26, Andrea Constand, the lady he had been mentoring, came forward to say that
Cosby had drugged her and assaulted her. Although this was the only case that led to criminal charges, more than 60 women have accused him of sexual misconduct or assault. This is very important and relevant today because it is the first legal trial of the #MeToo movement. There is a growing list of people in Hollywood that are being accused of the same type of thing. Hopefully, whatever happens, they will receive the justice they deserve.

Bill Cosby Leaves Court In Handcuffs -- Rose Tharp

Bill Cosby was given a three to 10 year prison sentence for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004.

This relates to history because it's a reminder that history comes back to haunt us, so we should learn from it.

Isabella Sander- Rosenstein and Trump

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/22/politics/divergent-stories-may-16-rosenstein-mccabe/index.html

Donald Trump and Rod Rosenstein are in a quail about how Rosenstein will leave the White House. at one point Rosenstein was going to resin from Deputy Attorney General but then Trump would be able to put someone that was already passed by the Senate. witch in that case the person appointed will just be overseeing the Russian investigation and its connection with the present. The other option is that Rosenstein is fired and then Trump will have to go threw the whole processes of getting a new Deputy Attorney General. And now the CNN new reporters are saying that Rosenstein is going to be fired.

I think that in the past we have had government quails but none this massive. For example when the 13 colony's were starting there government some of the colonies at first did not want to come together because they were loyal to the king of England. Some of the officials were even had problems with the people that were selected to be the leaders of the government like Abraham Lincoln and the people that did not like what he was say he wanted for the new world after the American Civil War. So even though Rosenstein does not like Trump as president he will ultimately have to come to a calm peace of mind and except him. Even though there are cases against the president.

Man On Fire

On the 24 of September a 74 year old man was found still alive on his room 5 days after his apartment complex caught on fire. He was found while fire marshals were going through the building. Trapped in his apartment with lots of injures but none we life threatening. After being found, a fireman said to him" I'm coming up to get you" he replied with a surprisingly joking tone "I'm not going any place."This reason this article was made was to show the small miracles in life. That this man survived a fire without doing anything.

Bryn Bohannan- Judge Kavanaugh

Summary:
Kavanaugh is being accused for raping two women. He said that he would never do that, never got incoherently drunk, or was a virgin even after high school. His Yale classmates say otherwise, they have heard crazy stories about his sex life during college and he known for getting drunk out of his mind.
Analysis:
This article comes from CNBC which is not the most reliable source, they tend to be one sided. With that being said, the article was to raise awareness over who is helping run our country. I have heard little details about this case. I think that he was definitely in the wrong, but I do not understand why it took so long for the women to come out. I get it might take some time, but 30 years is a little bit of  stretch. It is very hard to prove that something happened if it was that long ago. Also he probably doesn't remember the night because he was black-out drunk. That is definitely not an excuse for his actions though.

Hurricane Florence Gain Strength

More than one million people are forced out of their homes and towards the East Coast as the massive Hurricane Florence gains speed. By the 13th, professionals estimate that 10 trillion gallons of rain will have fallen on North Carolina. On  the 14th, Hurricane Florence hit land killing at least 20 people and leaving a massive path of destruction behind it. Professionals say the flooding may get worst. This connects the aftermath of Katrina. How millions of people has to evacuate and even maybe say goodbye to the home they lived in for years. This importance of this article is to inform people on whats going on across the country from them or maybe a couple states east of them. To let us a country know the impact of this hurricane

Killed in His Own Home

On September 6, an off duty police officer went to a neighbors apartment and shot the man who answered the door. Botham Jean was the man killed that day, an innocent 26 year old man. On September 24,2018 Amber Guyger has been fired and charged with man slaughter. No one really knows the motive of this. It may have been something personal, all we know is what Guyger has told. "It was an accident." Although that sounds crazy, it is what everyone has believed and that is what she has been charged with "accidental murder' The purpose of the article is to bring to light on what is going on with this case. To show how the legal system is and are handling this strange situation.

Bill Cosby sentenced to state prison for sexual assault - Paige Aleman

Comedian Bill Cosby was jailed for 3 to 10 years for sexual assault after he was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault after drugging and molesting Andrea Constand.

Justice was served for not only Andrea Constand, but for women all over the world. This case is a glorified legacy of the #metoo movement where women all over the world spoke out about being sexually assaulted and sexually harassed. Before Constand was sexually assaulted she was on top of her game and viewed Cosby as a mentor, but after the assault she was ruined emotionally. She felt alone and ashamed and felt as though she couldn't trust anyone, even  herself. Speaking out about cases of sexual assault is extremely hard for the victims and even though Constand could've lived a quiet life and dealt with the fact that Cosby ruined her "beautiful, healthy young spirit," she spoke out about her case.

President Trump refuses to aid Puerto Rico - Paola Aceves

Recently Trump has stated that he has no wishes to grant Puerto Rico statehood. According to Trump, this is because of the Mayor of San Juan, Yulin Cruz. He says that she is incompetent and until they find better leaders, they should not be focused on being granted statehood. Cruz is not offended by the statements and rather thinks it is a great honor. She believes this is because he is in part acknowledging that while they were hit by Hurricane Maria. The issue of statehood has been widely controversial in the territory, but only a small minority are opposed to it now.

Another highly controversial statehood was that of Hawaii in 1959. This was controversial due to political differences, such as the evidence it was a communist haven. Another reason was the fear of admitting a state that was governed by a minority. In both cases with Puerto Rico and Hawaii, not being admitted could be seen with little reasonable cause.

Derek Spellman - Drugs on Instagram

Instagram has a drug problem. Its algorithms make it worse.

Instagram has trouble regulating it's platform to keep people from selling drugs illegally. It's algorithms work by when is liking/searching/commenting on a certain type of post it gives you more of those posts. So when people start look at drugs on instagram they might start getting ads to buy illegal drugs. Instagram can't deal with this because they can't train their AI to flag illegal drug posts because thats to specific and varies to much. So basically these algorithms that most social media platforms use have effects over people that we did not intend to create are not necessarily aware of and have no real way to eliminate them. Great.

EA Vs. The World - John Lunzer

Loot boxes, an infamously hated feature in Triple A Games like "Call of Duty" and "Overwatch" that keep appearing again and again, recently got Electronic Arts into a lot of legal trouble. Late last year, Belgium declared that loot boxes were a form of gambling and were doth vowed illegal in the state of Belgium from that point forward. Many Developer Studios that had used loot boxes in games acknowledged this and worked around it, but the money-grubbing people at EA didn't like this one bit. Apparently, loot boxes we're a massive selling point in Belgium, specifically from FIFA, so they ignored this law being passed and continued to roll out loot boxes for Belgium. The government officials of Belgium saw this and promptly dealt with it.
They swiftly filed a lawsuit towards EA and now the whole world is on top of EA, trying to get them to lay off the loot boxes since they are pay-to-win and an honest to god form of gambling. Apparently the numbers they we're getting from Belgium FIFA players was just so earth-shattering that they had to risk a lawsuit over it. Probably since the release of the "Ultimate Teams" mode that heavily encourages the use of card packs, the game's own form of loot boxes. Overall, every other company opted-out of this, but once again EA is only out to maximize revenue and rake all players of every hard-earned dollar on their cards.

China Sets Tariffs on $60 Billion in U.S. Goods - Paige Aleman

Chinese state television reported on Tuesday that the government has decided to impose tariffs of 5 to 10 percent on $60 billion worth of U.S. products in response to President Trump announcing tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods. If the U.S. continues to raise tariffs then China will respond by raising their tariffs. Trump has stated that if China continues to raise tariffs (in retaliation to theirs) then they will add levies on about $267 billion additional imports.

This article was created September 18, 2018 so this information is a week old and was updated at 11:01 am ET. This event can relate to the taxes placed on the colonists in America before the American Revolution by the British. That had caused the colonists to become more dependent on themselves rather than on foreign goods. The increased tariffs on Chinese imports is going to increase investment and production in the United States. The author puts the tariffs between the U.S. and China in a bad light and that it is not the solution to the problems Trump has with the economic relationship with China. In the end the tariffs may end up ruining the world economy, although it's beneficial to some, it will hurt all in the long run.

Derek Spellman - Bill Cosby Sentenced

link: Bill Cosby sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison

Bill Cosby has finally been convicted of sexual assault and sent to prison. 3 to 10  years. Can you imagine him being released in 3 years? At all?  The judge said the evidence against him in this case was "overwhelming." Everybody has known for  years that Cosby is a rapist. The crime was committed in 2004. So why has taken until the #metoo movement for him to go to prison. Why is it that he has been accused of sexual assault by 60+ women dating  back to the 1960s and he goes to jail in 2018. The #metoo movement is amazing but it is also horrendously overdue.

Police officer fired after racist post - Paola Aceves

in Detroit, a relatively new officer was fired after posting a racist Snapchat picture. It was brought to attention when a former officer posted it on his Facebook to call attention to it. The officer was then dismissed from the force and told how this brought a bad light, not only to their department but all officers.

Racism can be seen throughout all of American history. From the beginning with run ins with the Native Americans to enslaving Africans and still recently. Although the issues are not as great as they used to be there are still large racism issues such as police brutality on African American citizens.

"When boys humiliate girls at school" Grecia Jimenez

Brett Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford when he was in Georgetown Prep. His yearbook entries are under scrutiny, and it has been found that the prep had an extreme party culture and was basically swimming in alcohol. Some of the entries made by the young men that attended Georgetown Prep culd possibly point in the direction that these allegations are in fact true.
From a young age, girls are put under the microscope to have their every move scrutinized by the rules of society. However, "boys will be boys" and are raised under a more lenient set of restrictions, but must allways demonstrate their masculinity because boys dont cry. Teenage boys are allowed to and even pushed into misogyyny and the mistreatment of girls, and girls are forced to tolerate it because "maybe he likes her". Girls are being taught to stay quiet, docile, and keep their act together while boys are free to roam and make mistakes without further conceqence. If boys and girls were raised the same and educated under the same limits and feedoms, cases like Kavanaugh's would not happen as often as they do. But since we arent, girls and boys will continue to suffer from sexual assault cases, abusive relationships, and suicide.

Most men think that they are way better at math than girls. Men think they are good at so many things such as football, baseball or soccer. Girls can do whatever they want to, such as playing football or soccer. Almost all men think that woman are weak and don’t know anything and make bad grades in school. That’s not true! Because now women are starting to show them wrong by making good grades and playing football.

Grayson Decker - Candidate for universal flu vaccine protects against multiple strains

Flu vaccines are already a thing, but sometimes they don't work against influenza strains. The flu is always changing what its made of every year, making the vaccine against it constantly have to update. With this new vaccine that is still in development from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, there might be a more permanent fix. Instead of using HA proteins, it uses "mRNA molecules that encode HA proteins to elicit and antibody response". So instead of being vaccinated with immunity to just one type of influenza strain, your body and create antibody's to the constantly developing virus. Even though this sounds perfect, it is yet to be tested on humans and only on mice so far.
When the Europeans came to the new world and brought diseases, the natives had no protections against them. Their bodies were not developed to take on even seemingly small things like small pox. Had they had something like this, and injectable vaccine, the history between the natives and Europeans may have been a lot different.

Zoe Williams: Man shot by police officer in his own home

This article discusses the shooting of Botham Jean in his own home by officer Amber Guyger.  Mr. Jean liver above her and after entering his apartment she fired at him twice.  She was originally put on administrative leave by the chief of police.  There were complications to her complete release because there had to be more specific details in the case and they didn't want her firing to influence the investigation.  Finally after the primary part of the investigation was over officer Guyger was released.  The chief stands by her actions as citizens rally behind Botham.

I personally have been seeing significantly less racially pivotal shooting investigations, such as Stephon Clark's death, recently, probably mostly due to the pot of pasta water known as politics constantly boiling over.  This article was thankfully written from a purely factual point of view for the common person.  It was short and to the point, which I really enjoyed, because I felt like I had a good enough grasp on what had happened without having to spend too much time reading it.  I think this is especially important because I know a lot of people, including myself that don't like to read and therefore don't keep up with the news, because it takes too long.  This article took that issue away.  I know this issue was very prominently talked about just a little while ago, but it is important to continue to discuss incidents like this until they go away.  Whether the officer is guilty of shooting the man without a good cause is partially beside the point because racial discrimination shouldn't even be near the table of possibilities for shooting a man, and the fact that it is a massive concern for our country.

Mia Murphy- Amber Guyger, Dallas Police Officer killed unarmed man

Just a few weeks ago amber Guyger had opened the door to her neighbors apartment thinking that it was hers, when it was really Botham Shem Jean. That night on September 6,  Amber Guyger had fired her weapon twice at Both and he was dead. She did get fired from the Dallas Police Department and the chief, U. Renee Hall had cited her arrest. There are two ways/sides you could take or follow here... One is that you believe this murder was an act of racism that came with lost of rage, or that she had just come off of a very long shift at work and goes "home" to find an unknown man in her living room.  If Amber wasn't a police officer who had just come off a shift her first instinct may have not been to shoot, but isn't that what they're fist instincts are? In no way am I saying or agreeing to if this is okay, but what if we all looked at it from a different perspective.

Grayson Decker -Florence floodwaters result in 'islands' of floating fire ants

Not only did Florence destroy and bring lots of flooding to North Carolina, but also brought large clumps of floating fire ants. With all the flooding, all the ants in North Carolina were displaced from their homes in the grounds which can be up to 4 feet deep. They create massive islands of ants in order to float. The people are scared of these ants for good reason. If you come into contact with them, chances are you will be stung multiple times, with extra venom they develop when they are away from their colonies. It is recommended that the people have to wear protective clothing like boots gloves, long pants and shirts, and socks.
Natural disasters happen all through out history, the most memorable being Hurricane Katrina. Hurricanes go through and ruin the lives of all people who live in the area.

Paige McManaman- Hurricane Florence hit 10 days ago and is still causing evactuations

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/09/24/florence-10-days-later-rescues-and-evacuations-continue/1408965002/

Hurricane Florence started 10 days ago and is still cause multiple families and people to evactue roads and houses. These people are now under evacuation watches and still hundreds as being rescued from the flooding waters. The death toll from the storm is 43 and tentative damage estimates to around $50 billion which place the hurricane in the top 10 most costly hurricanes in the United States.

Hurricane Florence will leave a mark on the United States for such a long time, maybe even forever. Just likeHurricane Florence, Hurricane Katrina also made a huge impact on our country. Katrina is still remembered today and will always be thought about forever just like Hurricane Florence will. A good thing about this incident is that multiple states are coming to aid and helping with the storm and evacuation to make everything more smooth for all of the people impacted and effected by the hurricane. There has been at least 350 evacuations that happened because of the hurricane and it is still not over. This hurricane was a very downhill moment in current day United States because of the expenses for helping,  safety, and the cost of everyone’s lives that are in danger or were in danger. I feel that everyone should try to donate or help out with societies that contribute to everyone that got effected by the hurricane.

Heres a look into trumps tarried war with China .

Earlier this month the United States and china haven’t been really on the same page when it comes to agreeing with the new tarrifs that trump is putting on imported goods from them . The more you look at it , China isn’t taking the 200 billion tarrif as a good thing since it’s so much money . Even the Wall Street journal wrote “a steady rise in political pressure”. When trump saw this he straight went to claim that “we’re not in any pressure to make a deal with China, China is under pressure making a deal with us”. He also claims their market is collapsing and says ours is surging. In my opinion I believe that trump and China need to come a high pay tarrif but an agreeable one or one that makes them fall for it . Back in colonial time when America barely started out , they would have to negotiate a reasonable price for everything, not now though during these times .

Daniela Rodriguez-Woman Arrested After Sheltering Animals During Florence

https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2018-09-24/woman-arrested-after-sheltering-animals-during-florence

Tammi Hedges, a woman who runs an animal rescue center in North Carolina, sheltered around 30 animals in her warehouse during the storm, providing food, water, shelter, and medication. Of her own accord, she administered drugs to certain animals in need, claiming they were not in reach of a veterinary, or animal hospital. At one point, her unlicensed animals were taken by animal services willingly, and she is now facing charges for illegally administering drugs to an animal without a license. Personally, I support her actions, because despite being illegal, if it’s something last reaort and necessary, I see the need to administer medicine to an animal. This also related to previous disasters in the US like hurricane katrina, destroying various cities and the homes of animals, leaving it up to shelters like those of Hedges to take them in.

If FBI investigated allegation against Kavanaugh By: Grayson Decker

If FBI investigated allegation against Kavanaugh
 By: Grayson Decker

Kavanaugh, a nominee to run the supreme court, had a picture perfect record until a sexual assault charge was made against him. The only problem with this is that isn't not recent at all, the allegation was centered around a collage party 36 years ago. Nobody can prove this claim either, since all of the people that could testify are either passed away or are clueless to what happened.
The part that makes me disbelieve these charges even more than I Did was when he said he was a virgin through most of collage and during the time he was being accused of. Also, this allegation was held for 6 weeks, right up until a decision had to be made about Kavanugh, which makes it suspicious if it was just some false evidence to prolong the decision.
The judicial branch goes all the way back to Montesquieu and the belief of separation of powers. However I'm sure if the founding fathers looked at things like these sexual assault claims holding back possibly the most perfect man for this position, I'm sure they would be disappointed too.

10-year-old Alaskan girl's murderer charged and convicted- Jordan Gillette

https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/alaska-man-charged-murder-10-year-girls-slaying-58055341

Summary: On Monday, September 24th, 2018, 41-year-old Peter Wilson was charged for the murder of 10-year-old Ashley Johnson-Barr, whose remains had been found on September 14th. Johnson-Barr disappeared on September 6th, and was last seen alive at park in Kotzebue, a small town in northern Alaska. She was found in the bitter tundra not too far away from the park that could only be accessible by a four-wheeler, or on foot. Evidence of strangulation and sexual abuse was found during her autopsy, and Wilson's DNA was found on her body. In court, Wilson lied excessively about the situation, he had taken Johnson-Barr's phone (he said he found it on the ground) which was found in the pocket of one of Wilson's jackets, and lied that he didn't know who she was (he did), and he hadn't touched his four-wheeler that day (he had). Wilson was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual abuse of a minor and tampering with evidence. According to criminal division director for the state Department of Law, no further legal action is being put forth until after Johnson-Barr's funeral on Saturday.

Analysis: This is a tragic scenario that should never have seen the day, but unfortunately events like these happen more often than never, and we all have to live with that. This article was written by Rachel D'Oro, a reporter based in Alaska who frequently covers current events throughout the state. Before reading this article I hadn't heard anything about this case, and reading about it now makes me upset. I'm a big fan of unsolved mysteries so I hear about these kinds of stories all the time, but hearing about a child's murder only leaves me with feelings of despair and sadness, and I'm happy that Johnson-Barr's family got some closure, unlike child homicide cases like Jon-Benet Ramsay's. Ashley Johnson-Barr's murder can be related to Eklutna Annie's murder in 1980. Though they could never figure out who Eklutna Annie really was, they were able to catch and arrest her killer, Robert Hansen.

Ellle Grinnell- Mexico City shooting: 2 in custody after gunman dressed as mariachis killed 5 in Mexico City Plaza

Police are now holding two people in question following a group of men dressed as mariachi opened fire inside of a Mexico City restaurant. No one knows the motive of the shooting but but there were multiple mariachi bands in the plaza when gunfire struck. Five people, three men and two women, were killed and many others were injured.
This makes me think about how In a lot of school shootings the shooter is someone who attends the School and no one even takes note of it. I think this really shows us that people need to take more precaution and actually take not of their surroundings.

Six year old boy from North Carolina, named Maddox Scott Ritch, was last seen Saturday in Rankin Lake Park in Gastonia, North Carolina. Maddox have autism, therefore he is nonverbal. He was last seen with his father and another adult at the park around 1:30 pm. Authorities have been searching for him through the wood with the sounds of his parents' voices to hopefully end this three day search. On Monday, authorities spread the search for Maddox two miles past the park's boundaries. The increasing search for him now included aircraft, and canines, including drones. On Sunday they canceled all activities at the park and closed it until they get further notice. They want to make sure they check every single possible spot for this child, therefore they drained the water from the lake in order to examine the shoreline. Authorities are investigating every single possibility into what led up to Maddox's disappearance. Police said Maddox has blue eyes and blond hair and is also 45 pounds. He was also last seen wearing an orange t shirt with the words written "I am the man", along with closed toed sandals and black shorts.

Any story you hear about a child going missing is heartbreaking, but this one especially because Maddox has autism. He is also nonverbal so there is not much he can do to save himself. I really hope the police can do everything possible to find and save this poor kid.

Youssef Bakr's Analysis of "BIll Cosby's maximum possible sentence now 10 years after charges merged"

Because the three charges of assault against women Cosby has been found guilty of stemmed from the same event, prosecutors decided to merge all of them into one charge, therefore reducing Cosby's maximum prison sentence from 30 years to 10. Claiming that he had "shown no remorse," for assaulting Andre Constand, prosecutors recently asked a judge to sentence him from five to ten years. Cosby's defense attorney asked that he be placed uner house arrest, noting his old age and blindness.

Bill Cosby, one of the great comedians of the world, has regrettably ruined his image, career, and even livelihood because of the terrible decision he made almost 14 years ago. Unfortunately, there have been many other cases of sexual misconduct in not only recent years, but dating to further back than even the current millenium (there were a few big sex scandals involving the Catholic church).

Another fairly recent accusation against a comedian occured in November of 2017, when the renowned Louis C.K. admitted to engaging in sexual misconduct with at least five women in the comedy world. he appeared unannounced on a stage at a comedy club last August which was his first appearance since the accusation.

Haley Bogdon - Despite the Many Mass Shooting, States are not Getting Guns Laws Passed

This article is written to inform the public that even though many states and lawmakers were motivated after past shootings to get stricter gun laws passed, they continue to fail at making real changes.  After the shooting in Parkland, Florida, the lawmakers there drafted laws to allow changes that they said would keep people safe.  These laws have yet to be passed.  The only states where gun laws have actually had progress are Florida and Vermont.  These states had laws signed by their governors including one to raise the age to purchase a gun to 21 and also a three day waiting period for purchases for individuals.  The NRA is challenging the laws passed in Florida in court, but at least some progress has been made.  Overall, I believe that this article was written to inform people that there is still a long way to go to get laws passed to keep these shootings from continuing.
I agree with the author of this article that laws need to be passed to keep people from getting guns that are not fit to have them.  I do not feel that enough has been done after all of the shootings that have occurred.  I think that people often refer to the 2nd amendment where it states that people have a right to have guns and defend themselves, but I feel that after everything that has happened, people should be open to making changes to this historical law.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/24/asia/bts-un-korea-intl/index.html

I find it very interesting that a boy band is making such an impact. As a lover of music its truly impacting to see a group start smaller to now doing over seas shows, speeches, and more. it seems to be impacting our youth giving us voices. being published September 24th of 2018 seems to have a strong wave already. It was written for the public but seems to be heating younger audiences hearts. Especially dedicated fans. I would like to think its a positive, influence on people especially younger generations to see that at any point you'll grow ,and even be able to make bigger moves then intended.

Rainfall Makes History in Dallas - Sloan Daley

The massive rainfall that happened this weekend made history as the most rainfall in September since 1932. In only two days, 8 inches of rain had already done damage to Dallas. However, by Friday night there had been a record breaking 11.03 inches of rain. The floods had trapped families on their roofs while they’re homes flood beneath them. The record doubled from Friday, and on Saturday in San Antonio there was 16.32 inches of rain. This is devastating families and taking all that they have.

My Source

This is similar to the journey of the Trial of Tears in the 17th century. Thankfully these minor floods are not as extreme as the Trial of Tears. However, both the people now and then can empathize with the feeling of everything you have being wiped out and taken away. The emptiness most of our can’t imagine is the reality for some of these people.
Haley Bogdon - Ben Shapiro claims that Kavanaugh Allegations are Business as Usual for Democrats

This article was written by an author who clear is a Kavanaugh supporter and is written to convince the readers of how the Democrats are out to tarnish his name.  The author stated that even if Christine Blasey Ford is being honest about what happened to her, the Democrats are solely focusing on this story to get  people to go against Kavanaugh.  The author also implies that the way the Democrats are using this case as a way to enforce their dislike of candidates that Trump supports is not acceptable.  In addition, the author mentions other past cases where the Democrats used them to impact elections and sway the public towards their side.  In the author's opinion, the Democrats have a long history of only caring about winning and doing whatever it takes to ruin the republican candiates' chances, immediately before an election.

I do feel that some of the examples given by the author when all mentioned together make you question some of the timing of these cases and how close they are to elections.  However, I still feel that victims who come forward deserve to be heard.  I also think though that the candidates deserve to be heard and have a fair chance to defend themselves.  It does make  you question the motives of the media and other parties when it comes to elections and what is reported.  I know that throughout many past elections, there have been many things that both parties have done to win over the public and not all are acceptable or fair ways to try to win.  I believe that our founding members of this country did not intend for the politics to become so ugly and hateful, but more wanted a fair democracy for the people.

Bill Cosby faces sentencing over sex assault - Paige Aleman

The sentencing hearing for comedian Bill Cosby began with the debate over whether to label him a sexually violent predator. In April, Bill Cosby was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault against ex-basketball player Andrea Constand. Psychologist Kristen Dudley testified that Cosby's behavior was that of a mental illness and he would likely reoffend, however Cosby's defense team said that given his age and that he is legally blind, the designation would be too sever a punishment and the classification process was unconstitutional. Judge Steven O'Neill has stated that the law is constitutional, but still hasn't ruled whether Cosby will receive the predator designation which would but him on the sex offender registry and require him to undergo counseling for life.

This article was created today, so it was fresh in the mind of the writer with a generally unbiased opinion on the matter. This event is a high-profile legacy of the #metoo movement which led to many people around the world to speak up and share their stories of sexual harassment and sexual assault. This article was written for the people to be updated on current events and I also think that it was made for the victims of sexual harassment and assault. There have been decades of sexual accusations from more than 60 women across the US against Bill Cosby, and now he may finally get punishment for his actions. Because no matter how old you are, if you're blind, if it's due to a mental illness, sexual assault/harassment is still sexual assault/harassment.
