This article talks about the effects of replacing detention with meditation at Robert W. Coleman elementary school. People working at the school say how it has lowered the disobedience and acting up of the children. Their meditation room has allowed kids from this school to leave a angersum environment and enter a calm and relaxing one. Through breathing exercises and meditation these student go back into the classroom ready to learn and behave. It is also explained that some of these children are living in harsh environments where some of there parents aren't at home and they don't have food or light. This create he understanding why there were people acting up and confirms the need of meditation in the kids lives. This article was written by Deborah Bloom, CNN staff, on November 4th, 2016. This means that this article is accurent, current, and unbiased. This article was written to inform people hat there are other, more peaceful, ways to behave children. This allows people to see that simple deep breathing can allow children to be calm and focused. It has a positive influence on the audience in that it persuades the audience in rethinking the way we look at behaving kids at school and specifically detention. I personally think that detention doesn't really help in allowing students to learn and succeed which is the job of schools. This relates back to the first forms of meditation in the United States that allowed not just kids but mainly adults to control their breathing and benefiting the mind and body.

  1. I really like this because it shows there are alternative ways to negative things. You cant fight fire with fire and I think people are finally starting to understand that.
