Residents of Spartanburg, South Carolina are in a state of shock and disgust as three bodies have just been discovered on a man named Todd Kohlhepp's farm. A missing woman was found on his farm on November 3, chained by her ankles and neck, screaming for help in a shipping container. This week, the bodies of Meagan Leigh McGraw Coxie and Johnny Joe Coxie were also found on his property. Kohlhepp served a 15 year sentence in prison in 1987 for kidnapping, and last week, he confessed to killing four different people in 2003. The residents of the town are in disturbed that this man that they had been in close contact with for years had such a criminal lifestyle that they didn't know about. Kohlhepp's previous real estate client commented, "We were like 'wow, we know this guy.' This feels kind of strange having that kind of person sitting at your kitchen table, walking through your house, and the idea that during that whole time, he's got keys to our house and could've gotten in at any time is just very nerve-racking."
This article was published to inform the reader of what Kohlhepp did and how his actions have affected his community. The writer provides a lot of interviews of people who have had encounters with him that were a little creepy, emphasizing how disturbed each citizen is. The writer also focused a lot on Kohlhepp's careers as a real estate agent and a waiter, further developing the idea that he interacted with so many people, and that it 'could have literally been anybody'. The reader of this article will probably in effect be a little more cautious of who they interact with in person and online. This can synthesize back to the 1970s and 80s when Jeffrey Dahmer lured people to his home and murdered them, like Kohlhepp.
