Obama in connection with his large number of sentence reductions these recent months has granted clemency to 72 more federal inmates some of whom were sentenced to life. In total Obama has granted 944 people clemency, more than the past 11 presidents combined. Nearly all of the mentioned inmates were indited for drug related crimes most of those being non violent except for a few illegal weapons possessions. In a believe that those inmates deserve a second chance most of their sentences will end in 2017 or 2018.
Personally I believe this is great thing and completely a right choice on the president's part as I believe the war on drugs is a failure and only creates more harm and danger for the people of the United States and the world and actions like this, taking a step towards ending this terrible economic plunder, is great and far more logical as we've seen bans of other drugs such as alcohol fail this very same way. However I can understand a person with a different view being validly upset with the large amount of sentence shortenings President Obama is made but it seems it is within his power to do this.

Seventy-two inmates is a lot but I am proud of Obama for doing this. Many people are opposed to this idea but I think it's excellent that he is helping america in many different aspects.
ReplyDeleteObama really does have the best interests for those in America. Future presidents should follow this compassion displayed by Obama.
ReplyDeleteI love Obama, I'm so sad he's almost done. I'm glad he's using what little time and power he has left to try to fix past mistakes and showcase his caring attitude.
