Brittney Delpey: Hackers Are Using Your Webcams

This article was written by Daniel Jennings who work for Off the Grid News. It was written October 25th, 2016 regarding events that occurred October 21st, 2016. This was written for people who use the internet.
Hackers recently used peoples devices such as webcams, coffee makers, etc. to hack the internet. It attacked Dyn and issues a "distributed denial of service". So things like Netflix, Spotify, Amazon etc. were affected and were temporarily not working. The hackers try to take over devices that don't have passwords or ones where the default password was never changed for easy access. The main device they used is peoples webcams because its linked to the internet and there not a password. It was said that nearly 10 million devices were used to launch the attack. This is really frightening because our lifestyle is so wrapped up around technology we forget what some of the dangers could be that go along with it. I would make sure all of your devices are as secure as you can make them. It's crazy how things like cars and baby monitors are being hacked into by someone outside of your home.

Prior Knowledge: I didn't have any prior information on this incident which is quite scary because I would think that most people aren't aware and it could easily happen to anyone.

  1. This is terrifying! I wonder if there is a way to make our passwords more secure. I agree with your statement about how involved our life is with technology. If something that we base a big part of our life on is hacked, many issues are going to rise.
