Sarah Childs- Washington Parents Injected Their Children With Heroin
Summary: America is in the middle of an extreme heroin epidemic, but have you realized how much the drug's damage can be seen in children? A recent case involving two parents in Tacoma, Washington, could go to prison for decades after allegedly injecting their three young children with heroin. According to records, they called it "feel good medicine". The parents, Ashlee Hutt age 24 and Mac Leroy McIver age 25, could have to face three felony charges each of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, criminal mistreatment and assault of a child. Court accounts say the Tacoma parents admitted to several social workers that they used heroin, but they denied to the workers when questioned about their children being injected with the drug. All the evidence says otherwise. Hutt's attorney, who represented her in court this week and McIver's lawyer refused to respond to CNN's questions when asked.

Additionally, I did have very limited prior knowledge about the use of illegal substances, but I was not aware of the involuntary use in children. I was very open to any combination of possibilities while reading this article, and I have realized that this drug problem is very serious, and more common than I thought. I also realized that these serious issues can synthesize directly to child labor during the late 19th century. Both of these issues involved innocent children that were taken advantage of. Children died while operating heavy and difficult machinery, just as these children are dying from overdose. Additionally, organizations are being created to save these innocent kids, similar to the ones implemented for child laborer's rights. These events are very different, although there is a distinct connection between the two.

Whoa. This never even crossed my mind, but there is most likely a lot of other abusive parents doing this same thing. They're ruining their children's life and they don't even care!

This is so scary! Especially because when that child is older they are more likely to be addicted to heroin since it was introduced at such a young age and they could go through withdrawals.
ReplyDeleteThis is so terrifying! I cannot believe that a parent would ever give that to their child. This can lead to a serious addiction, and later issues later on in their life.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... this is ridiculous! We always hear our parents telling us the dangers of drugs and how they ruin lives, so seeing a parent advocating drugs and giving them to their child is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this horrible situation! wow... this adds to the increasing problem in our country of people having kids when they should not, therefore, making discusting decisions that could possibly destroy their future.
