Recently the Obama administration approved Shell to beginning drilling for oil in Alaska. The new sight will be a source for a portion of the nation's oil. Many are concerned with the offshore drilling sights; after the accident in the gulf, many fear the hard climate and conditions of the Arctic Sea may lead to potential danger for humans and the environment.
Throughout history major resources, especially energy, are the pinnacle of American focus. Energy sources allow the American modern culture to thrive and to be power without much thought about were the energy comes from. During the Oil Embargo, oil prices went up because a large nation was not allowing distribution specifically with the U.S. because of their envelopment in middle easter affairs.

While having a focus on energy sources and economic stability through those means can be very good for our nation, I feel like drilling in the Arctic Ocean will pose more problems overall. Because of such unpredictable weather and climate changes/hazards, oil spills and other dangers are easily possible. Because of the high level of danger and ruin possible, the outcomes of these dangers are, in my opinion, not worth the risk.

I think that this is a good thing. Like you said, we were really hit hard during the oil embargo and this will give us more opportunity to not be so dependent. However, there is still a risk. Hopefully we learned a thing or two for the spill in the gulf.
