Friday night Delta Force, one of the US Military's elite units, carried out a raid in Syria in order to capture Abu Sayyaf, a top ISIS official, who had hands in both ISIS military operations and business dealings. Sayyaf, originally a Tunisian citizen, and a close associate of the group's leader, was killed in the raid after attempting to engage Delta Force operatives. A woman taken hostage was rescued as well, and Sayyaf's wife, Uum Sayyaf, has been captured. The FBI is sending a High Value Interrogation Team in order to debrief Uum, who is suspected to know much about her husband's, as well as ISIS', dealings. Many agree that, while one of the directives was the capture of Sayyaf, it was much more important that the operatives secured documents, files, and records of ISIS dealings which could lead to important information on how ISIS makes their money.
This is very important in the fight against ISIS, since it has taken out one of their key officials and given US intelligence insight into many of the business dealings of ISIS. This is similar to the many Cold War missions carried out by US operatives in order to gain intelligence on the USSR, such as plans, schematics of weaponry, and lists of undercover agents. In this way it allows the US to better plan a course of action against the enemy.

US has always been very good at strategies during wars. This is a very good cross reference in American History
ReplyDeleteIt's great to know that this action has been made successfully. The U.S. can look further into ISIS, and hopefully find a solution much quicker.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see a plan that's probably thoroughly planned, rather than blindly chasing and attacking anyone who has the slightest chance of being part of ISIS.
ReplyDeleteI think that many Americans will be able to sleep better at night knowing that there is some kind of plan in place.
