President Gets His Own Twitter Account: 'It's Barack. Really'/ Madeline Boreham/ 4th period

The President has taken a step into a whole new world, Twitter. Known for connecting well to the young adults of America, President Obama has submerged himself into the social media whirlpool. He was greeted with open arms including a tweet from former President Bill Clinton. The White House has confirmed that this is his personal account and that all the tweets are coming directly from the President himself. The White House has stated that this Twitter is to allow the President a chance to engage with the people directly on a comforting platform that the public is used to.  This is not the presidents first experience with social media, but it is his first independent account.
This is a wonderful and effective way for Obama to connect with the people. In our world almost everything we do and everything that occurs in the world is posted to social media. Twitter has become a hub for issue that affecting thousands of people. The American people will feel a real connection towards him, because this is a familiar setting for them to talk to him on. This shows how our society has adapted to technology and how the internet is our number one form of communication today.

  1. I agree with you. Like FDR's fireside chats, this puts the president of the United States closer to the people and therefore makes it more of a pure democracy.
