Older people from the baby boom generation are becoming known as a elder orphans, because of lack of family and spouse. Nearly one fourth of people over 65 are considered elder orphans. What is bad is there are not enough nursing homes to accommodate these elders.
This relates to apush by talking about the baby boom generation and facilities supplied for elders though the system medicare, I think that this story is sad, yet faces the reality of our world right now.

It used to be a very important belief to take care of your elders and give back to those who taught you when you were younger. We now live in a society where the focus is more on the individual self than others.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad thing to grow up without parents, with no one to take care of you. WE need to do something about this problem, to place them into appropriate facilities to make sure that they are being taken care of.
ReplyDeleteI wonder I our generation will have this problem when we need nursing homes. It's scary to think that when you're not able to take care of yourself anymore, there won't be any place to take you in. What do you do? We need to help these people.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the idea of what elders mean to our community has really changed in the past years, and not for the better.
