Selfie With Your Victim By: Myles Bennett

Sixteen-year-old Maxwell Morton is being charged with murder after police found sixteen-year-old classmate, Ryan Mangan was found with a fatal gunshot to the face. Morton took a selfie after the murder with the deceased Mangan sitting in a chair in the background and posted it to Snapchat, an app that deletes the picture from their database 10 seconds after being opened. Morton sent the picture to a friend and sent text messages saying, "Told you I picked up the shells" and "Ryan was not the last one". Upon arresting Morton, police found a 9mm handgun, the same type of gun that ballistics identified as the muser weapon. Morton pleaded guilty to first degree murder and since he is sixteen, he may be charged in an adult court.

Analysis: Social media is a way that we advertise many things today. Groups such as ISIS have advertised their beliefs through social media. In the Roaring 20's, advertising was used to create an ideology and stereotype of what the "typical housewife" or the "ideal businessman" should be. The media is now being used to public ate illegal activity. It is a tragedy that this boy believes he was right in these actions.

  2. I hope he gets tried as an adult because he should know better. What kind of twisted person uploads a selfie on snapchat after something like that anyways?

  4. He used social media to get his message across, obviously he didn't think that snapchat could get the pictures back. To me it shows how dangerous social media is now a days.

  5. Its slightly disturbing how casual this is. A serious crime was committed and this seems like a jest towards the issue.
