A prosecutor involved in the trial of a terror suspect in New York reported that several young recruits were under orders to infiltrate Western society and "pull of the biggest operation since the 9/11 attacks." According to the Assistant US Attorney, because of the failed conspiracy in 2009, Al-Qaida called for attacks in NYC, England, and Denmark. Abid Naseer, the 28-year-old being charged and representing himself in court, tells about his cover as a college student and the plan to attack a shopping mall. He discussed this plan with Al-Qaida leaders through encoded emails. Naseer was rearrested at the request of U.S. prosecutors and extradicted to the United States in 2013. In his opening statement, Naseer, speaking about himself in the third person, says, "The evidence at trial will not show the defendant is an al-Qaida
member. ... He has no extremist or jihadist views. Fun fact: The jury will be the first to see evidence seized during the Navy SEAL raid in 2011 that left Osama bin Laden dead.

It's crazy to me that we are still having trials and looking at evidence from events that took place so long ago. It scares me that Al-Qaida members, such as Naseer, can blend so easily into society and that we don't suspect them of anything dangerous until it is too late. Hopefully, he will be charged and will also give up information that can help bring justice to the United States.
