Oklahoma school shelters- Beatriz Ruiz 4th period

A little bit more than a year has passed since a deadly tornado hit the city of Moore, Oklahoma, destroying in its path Plaza Towers Elementary School. This tornado hit during school hours leaving seven out of hundreds of students attending Plaza Towers dead. Due to this incident, a community petition has been established to gather support for building shelters in the proximity of schools as prevention for another tornado. The first initiative petition was abandoned in April after the state attorney general made changes to the tittle of the ballot. This didn't let the vote come forward to the Oklahoma residents. The funding of these shelters was questionable, so The Federal Emergency Management Agency agreed to cover 75% of the cost. On June 4,2014 this petition will be brought forward again with many additional changes.

The purpose of this shelter is to save many student's lives in case of any emergency. The organization "Take Shelter Oklahoma", composed of a group of people that backs up a statewide referendum to fund school storm shelters, is a very strong supporter for this cause. They don't want to see anymore more lives taken away because of lack of shelter and funding. This is so true why not make enough shelters?
