For Cherise Peters, the ambition to earn a doctorate in the medical field seems unattainable for a woman who was homeless the previous year. However, upon finding the Covenant House, a doctorate seemed like something she could achieve. 1 in 45 children experience some form of homelessness according to the National Center on Family Homelessness. The Covenant House International is aimed at eliminating that. Not only have they have helped over a million children, but they've aided children in the US, Canada, and Latin America as a "bridge from poverty to opportunity."
I love the method this organization is using to combat poverty. They are not simply giving these people money. They are helping these homeless people to develop the skills that will allow them to make their own money. "If give a man a fish, you feed for a day, if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
