Vintage By: Taylor Grant-Gates

In Pretoria, South Africa, vintage clothing is the new hip look. The past is a alien place to them, and that is why they have san emergence of boutiques and many vintage looks on the catwalks. Fashion blogger Namibian states "Vintage clothes have history behind them, they are from a legendary era that has been left behind by our ancestors. It is not a trend, it won't go away." It is so popular in the villages because of the fact that the clothes are sold out in markets that charge very reasonable prices on clothing as compared to similar styles sold in Europe. Another thing that draws people into the vintage fashion is the quality of the clothing. Many of the clothes made today are made with synthetic and/cheap fibers. They are clothes that are just made to sell, whereas vintage clothes are made to last and be dependable.

This was a very interesting article, because I like fashion. It was also interesting to find out that this is being done in Africa, a place that most people associate grief and poorness to, when in actuality it is one of the richest continents in the world. This is really cool, because I like vintage clothes and how younger people put a mod twist on them. We are all trendsetters.

  1. I like a vintage look. I agree about the whole Africa is only poor. People tend to associate Africa as only a continent with poverty and suffering. It's also a beautiful continent with prosperity, it just depends on what you decide to focus on. We have our suffering and poverty here as well.

  3. How cool is this!! I wish I could live there. I've been obsessed with vintage fashion for a long, long time and I would love to be able to wear it everyday. I also think the same things about vintage clothing as they do. I guess I'd fit right in if I ever moved there. :)
