Unhealthiest hot Starbucks drinks - Hannah Selby 4th

INFO:   Though Starbucks is known for its luscious coffee and relaxing vibe, you might feel a bit less relaxed and reconsider your next drink order after discovering just how loaded some of their drinks are. After an analysis was made of the ingredients of the various drinks on the menu, researchers made a list of the top culprits. Each of these extremely unhealthy beverages made it to this list for different reasons - for instance, some of them are so high in sugar that they could actually cause a Shetland pony to enter a diabetic coma, while others are packed with crazy amounts of carbs or cholesterol. All in all, many of the drinks that made it on the "naughty list" are actually quite unexpected- some of the seemingly harmless beverages turned out to be some of the worst offenders. And so, here's just part of the list, as based on the venti size with whole milk:
1) Peppermint Mocha - though it is highly concentrated with vitamin A, calcium, and iron, this dessert has as much saturated fat as a large serving of foie gras.                                                                                          2) Chai Tea Latte - this one is one of the biggest shockers as many mistake it for one of the healthier options due to the fact that it is supposedly antioxident and tastes less sweet than its neighbors.  However, it's actually 340 calories (more than a Taco Bell Beef Gordita Supreme) and contains as much sugar as two Snickers bars.                                                                                                                                              3) Caramel Brulee Latte - this can officially be called the queen mother of terribly unhealthy Starbucks drinks. It crams a whopping 580 calories, 20g of fat, and 85g of carbs into a 20oz. cup. That makes me feel fat just by thinking about it!
So how do you determine what's safer to order? Well, it pretty much goes without saying that a beverage called the "caramel brulee" isn't going to improve your waistline much, so watch out for drinks that leap out as especially decadent for starters.
RESPONSE:   Well, I knew Starbucks drinks weren't exactly the greatest for you, but it's crazy that it's even possible to fit that much junk in a regular sized drink!  Now I know to watch out for what I order the next time I go to Starbucks (but nothing can stop me from having a Peppermint Mocha from time to time. ;P)

  1. That is crazy! I always try and order my Starbucks with skim milk or sugar free syrup, and I would be interested to know the differences between the two. I would definitely rather have the two snickers bars than a coffee.

  2. And the taste isn't drastically different when you try to make it better. There is a difference, but not necessarily a bad one. Starbucks now puts the calories by the drinks with the corresponding size of the drink, but still I think they should be doing more to make them better for you, seeing how popular they are.
