Teenage con artist accused of stealing nearly $30,000 from Walmart

Written by Charlene Sakoda (2/10/2014)

Near Norman, Oklahoma, a teenage juvenile was arrested for stealing nearly $30,000 from three area Wal-Mart stores. The arrest made by local police happened at the end of January and was recently reported by KFOR News Channel 4. The teen who also reportedly worked for an actor with a local talent agency, apparently the teen convinced Wal-Mart employees that he was employed by the big box retailer and once inside, was able to steal thousands. Going to several Wal-Marts, the teen would be left alone with thousands for dollars that were meant for transfer. The unnamed individual would also work at cash registers and take up to $3,000 a day. Moore Police Sergeant Jeremy Lewis said, “He’s obviously confident in what he’s doing and has a good story.” Currently in police custody, the decision if the teen will be tried as an adult continues, but the Cleveland County District Attorney is working on the case.
I was shocked to read this article of a teenage stealing thousands of dollars so easily. I am disappointed at the Wal-Marts and police for not catching on sooner. I am disgusted by the kid to steal and mess with people's hard earned money.

  1. It's terrible that trust was put into him. Not that any sort of stealing is okay, but I definitely wouldn't be stealing thousands of dollars, that definitely will (and did) get caught.

  2. Wow. Just goes to show that people are insane. I'm surprised that no one had caught on, tighter security perhaps?

  3. Byron Otis- what a confident young man! It requires an enormous level of pluck to be able to pull that off. Kudos to him, as well as the appropriate amount of shame

  4. man, he knows how to play so many people. this is crazy, it harms walmarts industry and our community! Why do kids feel the need to do these things?

  5. Its pretty amazing that he went and was able to trick his way into the stores not once but three times. Depending on his age, he might just be considered as an adult.

  6. What he did was wrong, but it would certainly take a large amount of... talent... to pull this off. I wonder if he carefully planned being near the money that was meant to be transferred, or if things just happened to work in his favor?

  7. It's really amazing that he was able to steal so much so easily. It ALSO shows that security often is quite ineffective, which also shows that these kinds of crimes really may not be that difficult to commit. Though this case is disappointing, maybe we can all take some reassurance in the fact that more of these crimes don't happen given how easy it is to carry them out.

  8. As wrong as his crimes against Wal-Mart were, this just proves the lack of security that the corporation has even over their own dollars. It's disappointing that he broke the trust that was given to him but I'm even more disapproving that Wal-Mart would so easily bestow their trust unto him. I really think that both parties are at fault.
