Being queer can definitely be a downer, especially in a place like Texas where it seems that most people wouldn't like you if they knew you were queer. But I still think people are full of surprises, and a great example of this can be found in Frank Schaefer, a preacher who was defrocked for performing his son's same-sex marriage. According to Schaefer, alternate sexualities aren't inherently sinful and have much more to do with equal rights than religion. This guy is a preacher, in Texas, but he apparently has three gay kids and oversaw his son's gay wedding and that's so amazing to me! He was recently honored for this in a large gay, bi, and trans-friendly church right here in Dallas. People like him give me hope that our society is pushing forward and there are still people out there who have kind and accepting natures.

I love this story, it's nice to see that there is some progression happening in the South in regards to sexuality. It's also great that he gives recognition to the fact that people with different sexualities aren't sinners or bad people, which many people have come to believe. I hope that his acts of acceptance are emulated throughout the community, state and nation.
