Women in Iran are not allowed to attend football matches between male sides for religious reasons, but the beautiful game is popular among the republic's female population.
PLAYERS in Iran's up and coming professional women's football league will now face mandatory gender tests, after it has been revealed that four national team players were found guilty of not actually women. The Telegraph reports:
The country's football governing body is bringing in the random checks after it was revealed that several leading players - including four in the national women's team - were either men who had not completed sex change operations, or were suffering from sexual development disorders.
Medical inspectors will now randomly attend professional women's games to carry out spot checks.
So far, a total of seven players have been barred from the league after failing gender tests.
I can't believe, first of all, that there were men posing as women in a women's football league in Iran. Women are banned from attending male football matches under Sharia law, but I cannot understand the reasoning behind men "sneaking" into the league.

Wow, that's just weird...and plain creepy! And why were there so many of them? Geez, some people...

I can understand why the men posed as women, I mean they were obviously some crazy drag queens looking for football fun. All jokes aside, this is interesting! I think people should focus more on the rights of women, however. Instead of wondering why men dressed as females. <3
ReplyDeleteI think this is really interesting and it gives a weirdly different perspective on things happening in Iran. It's also really interesting because it's recently come more to attention how many alternate sexualities there are in the middle east and how many people identify differently from others. In a place where they won't even let women into a men's football stadium it's crazy to think that there are still unique people.
