Yesterday, on February 2nd, 2014, Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of accidental overdose in his Manhattan apartment's bathroom. Hoffman, an Oscar winning actor who struggled with drug addiction and drug abuse, was found with a needle in his arm which was used to inject heroine. Police investigation found two more bags off heroine in Hoffman's apartment. The 46 year old actor was last seen Saturday morning, entering his apartment with playwright David Katz, who reported Hoffman's death to the police. Hoffman's family asks for privacy and that Philip be remembered for his acting, and not for the drugs.
I hate to see great artists die from drug overdose. Philip Seymour Hoffman, who acted in movies like Capote, The Hunger Games, The Master, Doubt and Money Ball, and even The Big Labowski, was somewhat of an icon as he nailed every diverse role he played in. Although Seymour admitted that he loved being "messed up", i do believe that his death could be a product of Hollywood. Police do not believe that the overdose could be linked to suicide, however, stating that the usage of hard drugs could be linked to stress and celebrity lifestyle would not be a radical statement. Either way, RIP to a great actor.

ReplyDeleteIt's sad to hear about great artists dying from drug problems. The most recent drug-related Hollywood death was 31 year old Glee star Cory Montieth. Now, to hear that Philip Seymour Hoffman, a phenomenal Oscar award winning actor, overdoses on heroine is so tragic. It's my hope that the next generation of Hollywood entertainers can abstain from such use of controlled substances.
