Wealthy Couple Off to Prision

A wealthy Seattle couple are on their way to prison. David Silverstein and his longtime partner, Lyudmila Shimonova, were sentenced to eighteen months in prison on Friday. Silverstein must pay a fine of $30,000, and has also already paid $334,000 in restitution and civil penalties. His lifetime partner, Lyudmila Shimonova was ordered to pay $261,000 in restitution. Silverstein pretended to be Shiminova's landlord at a home on Washington Lake when she lived their with her two children, but actually, Silverstein was living their with her also. Prosecutors say that the couple received more than $1,200 each month in federal housing assisstance. They also say Shimonova received more than $100,000 in state and Social Security benefits while owning a $12,500 platinum and diamond ring and $17,000 diamond earrings. Sometimes I wonder what goes through a person's mind when they do this. Sooner or later, you're going to get caught when you're trying to cheat your way into getting money and attemp
ting to trick the government. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/22/david-silverstein-lyudmila-shimonova_n_1905636.html?ir=Business

  1. This is so disgraceful! Not only are these people totally ridiculous and unintelligent, but they are selfish! There are thousands of people in the United States starving! Children even! That money could have, and should have, been going to people who actually needed it! And it's people like this who are making it worse because there are people who want to get rid of governement assistance programs. As long as things like this keep happening, we can all say so long to these government assistance programs and hello to a heck of a lot more poor and starving people.

  3. People are literally begging, needing, and deserving government assistance, and fir people like this to use this money, for what I think is petty and materialistic things that could've been somebodies shoes, clothes, food, RENT! The government should really do back up checks on things like this.
