The explosion occurred on Friday night at AB Specialty Silicones plant in Waukigan, 80 km north of Chicago. The authorities are still establishing the cause of the incident. At the time of the explosion at the factory were nine people. Four workers were injured; they received medical assistance. Two more people refused treatment, and three went missing. Stephen Lenzi told reporters that the factory worked 24 hours a day. It produced silicone raw materials for cosmetics. The cause of the fire is investigated by the Illinois Fire Department and the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Three people missing after a powerful explosion and a fire at a chemical plant in Illinois are likely to have died. This was reported on Saturday by the Associated Press, citing the authorities in Waukegan County. According to Stephen Lenzi, the chief of the Wookang District Fire Department, rescuers stopped searching for three missing people for security reasons. Pipelines and other equipment inside the building were seriously damaged during the explosion. They can collapse at any time. Lenzi added that the search for the bodies of the dead can be resumed only in a few days.

It is very sad to hear that someone died because of this accident. Although someday factories with developed technology saved people's lives, however it is more dangerous for people lives. It was much harder to have a job at factories during 19th - 20th centuries and at least one person in the family was injured at least once during factory work time. And even today with much more developed technology it becomes even worse.

  1. This is awful that people who are trying to earn money for their families and work hard are put in danger and lost their lives. Hopefully chemical plants will learn from this and have better safety requirements in the future.
