A recent study done by the U.S Food and Drug Administration recently found concerning levels of several chemicals within many mainstream sunscreen brands, including avobenzone, oxybenzone and octocrylene. Oxybenzone can have negative affects on many people's hormone levels, and in large amounts can be dangerous to the body. The studies showed that these chemicals entered the bloodstream in only one day as well. Scientists, however, say that the levels of chemicals found are not particularly dangerous, and that customers should still continue to buy sunscreen rather than be subjected to harmful UV rays.
Although this isn't a particularly dangerous problem at the moment, I believe its the responsibility of companies to know what they put in their products before selling them to customers. In this particular case, the level of the chemicals is so low that no damage will really be done, however it's still concerning that several dangerous chemicals are in these produce, even if in trace amounts. I believe companies should know exactly what they put in their products, and customers should have the right to know as well.]

I think this is a interesting article, now I know what chemicals are put into sunscreen and that they are not particularly dangerous ~ Stephannie Hernandez
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jude. I would like to know what is in a product before I buy it and how it affects me.
ReplyDeleteI think that the benefits of sunscreen outweigh the chemicals in them. It seems like the article is saying that in small amounts, the chemicals will not likely cause harm. However sun damage to your skin is known to cause cancer.
ReplyDeleteKadar- Man, what can we turn to now if we're going to be outside in the sun for a long time; obviously not sunscreen because, that may hurt us too.
