SAT to Give Students 'Adversity Score' to Capture Social and Economic Background -- Mary Kate Madden

Yesterday, the College Board said it will soon include an "adversity score" for students taking the SAT. This score will include 15 environmental factors including family income, local poverty and crime rate, and whether AP classes are available at this person's school. Their idea is to give more context than just a SAT test score. Race will not be factored in.

It could definitely face backlash from upper-class rich families and people who worry this could be used against them or they might get less of a chance.

  1. I can definitely see how there will be a lot of controversy over this decision. This should be considered a positive thing though. This means, hopefully, that people who don’t have enough money to get into some of these prestigious universities that rich, white people go to will have the opportunity and ability to go with this addition to the test.
