Mekinna Knight- World On Fire

In recent history, there have been numerous alarming accounts involving global warming. Although I do not have a full understanding of the matter, I do know that it is very serious and detrimentally impacting our environment. A personal childhood favorite, science commentator Bill Nye had some choice words about the need for urgent action to combat global warming. On "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" after the host discussed the Green New Deal, Nye demonstrated an experiment that was different from his usual more staid fare. Nye stated that when things costs more, people buy less of it, in reference to a possible carbon tax that's been floated by politicians as a way to mitigate climate change. Nye explains releasing carbon by pointing to pictures of various disasters taped to a chalkboard, "all of us pay for that in the form of things like fires, floods and crop failures. Putting a fee on carbon creates incentives to make less carbon, and more importantly, it incentivizes the development of low carbon technology" he confesses. He explains that by the end of the century, if emissions were to keep rising, the Earth's average temperature could go up another four to eight degrees. "What I’m saying is the planet’s on f------ fire,” He exclaims while simultaneously setting a globe on fire with a blowtorch.

This can be closely related to Al Gores' attempt to promote the creation of a Green New Deal that looks to create a more stable world temperature through political actions with contributions from the supporting citizens.
