The government already knows how to end school lunch shaming
https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/12/politics/school-lunch-shaming-children-debt/index.htmlSummary: In Rhode Island, the district planned to serve separate lunches. In other cases, kids have been forced to wear stamps or wristbands that identify them as having debt. In Minnesota, students with lunch debt at one high school were going to be kept from their graduation ceremony.
Analysis: This was written by Zachary B. Wolf, at CNN and u pdated at 4:08 PM ET, Sun May. The article follows the period of time that students have been under the new program. This reminds me of when the Jews were forced to wear yellow star badges to mark the wearer as a religious or ethnic outsider, and often served as a badge of shame. Which it is almost being used in the same case here with these children. To show the other peers that they could not afford lunch and single them out from the others in shame. The article is unbiased and informs the reader of all sides of the situation. I think it's important because it informs parents of what going on and to keep an eye out for what the district is doing to there kids.
I think the idea of broadcasting their debt is completely embarrassing. No high schooler has complete control over their financial situation & for a school to base them from that, is stupid.
