"Alabama's Abortion Abomination" An interpretation of Fox News article by Adelaide Willert

"Rapper Offset likens Alabama abortion law to slavery, says he's not proud to be an American"

Wowee do we have a lot to talk about in the next 250 words. I'm at least one million percent sure that we all know what the Alabama abortion law is, and the title of the article is pretty self explanatory and serves as a summary so I'm going to sprint into the analysis section of this FINAL current events blog.

Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot express my immense frustration, disappointment, anger, bleh with the legislators of Alabama right now. My hit list has grown by 26 people in the past week and it has made me feel some kinda way that is not pleasant and not fun. For literally anyone. So, wow. Let's unpack. Offset has equated the Alabama abortion law to slavery and he's not 100% wrong. Essentially, the legislators of Alabama who passed the abortion law have taken away an intrinsic right of women to decide whether or not they carry a fetus and let something literally leach off of them for nine months. When it comes to pregnancy and sex, Alabama is 50th in education (it's actually 50th in education all across the board) in comparison to the rest of the states. Additionally, schools chiefly preach abstinence, however Alabama is one of the 11 states with the most teen pregnancies. Let that sink in. Do we all need to say it together? I think we do. People who were educated in the 1940s and the 1950s in religion-based schools that taught minimal sex education should not be in charge of legislation. Period. Now, we get to say that no one should be in charge of legislation regarding women's bodies. In fact, there should be no legislation regarding women's bodies.

I could go on and on about the subject, but at the end of the day, the abortion law is doing the same exact thing that slave laws did: stripping large groups of people of their natural human rights. It's not okay, and something needs to be done about it because the South is starting to wage a war on women. We need to, as a country, get rid of all prejudices including racism, sexism, sexuality-based prejudice, religion-based prejudice, all of it. There is no place for that in this world, and it's time we start acting on that as a global community to craft the world we deserve to live in.
