Summary: A simple but grotesque quote by the famous Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman summarizes how a second Korean War or any war at all is. "War is hell". War with North Korea is looking closer than it has ever looked before. This partially due to Trump's failure of serious diplomacy and failure to threaten North Korea seriously. He threatens North Korea in a very informal manner in which Kim Jong Un doesn't also take seriously unlike Trump's predecessor's. The US Joint Chiefs of Staff informed the press that a war like this could kill and injure tens of millions and displace millions more. It could also lead to a larger scale world conflict. North Korea currently has the capability to attack Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, and Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. Another reason why the US doesn't want to go to war is because the US has never been the first one to strike since Washington's Neutrality Proclamation. Also because many lives of US soldiers are most certainly going to die and the government doesn't want that.

Analysis: This is where US history comes into serious play. The US has never directly started a war. Well unless you count the Mexican-American War provocations by the US, the US has never directly started a war or immediately joined one. This is due to the wish of not losing the lives of young Americans who go to battle if they join a war and also because of Washington's famous neutrality proclamation. The famous quote by Sherman is the most historically accurate statement of war. It is pure hell with the loss of millions of lives for sometimes pointless reasons. Even, civilians die if a war occurs. There is no fine distinction between soldiers and civilians that protect innocent people. War kills everyone. It is something that should be avoided at all costs if possible.

  1. Trump is the factor that will determine whether we go to war or not. Hopefully he is smart enough to realize that war would be a very bad idea.
