Thousands Of Giant Snowballs Suddenly Appear On Siberian Beach - Emma Reyna

Summary/Analysis:

Over a course of several weeks a beach located in Nyda, Siberia has been undergoing some phenomenal environmental changes. It appears that giant like snowballs have been forming and aligning over a stretch of eleven miles along the beaches coast. Although the beach is situated on the Yamal Peninsula, just above the Artic circle, locals have stated that they've never seen a site  like this. Ranging from just a few inches to three feet wide found in clumps of thousands, these snowballs are truly a rare sight and unbelievabley real. These  snowballs look  almost as if they were made by man himself but is astoundingly made by natural processes itself and that's quite amazing. Sergei Lisenkov from Russia’s Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute explained  in the Siberian Times, They’re caused by a rare environmental process in which small pieces of ice form and are rolled by the wind and water: When the water in the gulf rose, it came into contact with the frost. The beach began to be covered with ice. Then the water began to slowly retreat, and the ice remained. Its pieces were rolling over in the wet sand, and turned into these balls. It is a rare natural phenomenon. As a rule, grease ice forms first, slush. And then a combination of the action of the wind, the outlines of the coastline, and the temperature, may lead to the formation of such balls.

Synthesis:

The formation of huge balls of ice like these can be compared to an event that happened in a similar way when Lake Michigan suddenly had snowballs appearing and spreading all across its shoreline in 2014.It was due to sub zero temperatures from the polar vortex which caused the ice the form in the way it did.
