Linnea Soderlund: Hundreds Join A Man And His Dog For Their Final Walk

Summary: This article by Hilary Hanson tells the beautiful sad story of an 18-year old whippet and his dedicated owner. The owner had plans to euthanize Walnut on Saturday morning and wanted to have a celebration before he left. He posted a status on facebook that went viral asking people and their dogs to join him and Walnut for their last walk together on the dog's favorite beach. Hundreds of people joined on the beach and in spirit from their hometowns around the world. Walnut has since passed, but his last day was a beautiful one.

Analysis: This story, while sad, shows a nice comforting light in the world in this past week. Lots of bad things are happening and horrible feelings are being shared, but despite all of that, I hope we can remember the little cute moments that make our world kinda good. I love that people can come together through a passionate love for our animal companions and comfort those who are grieving. This put a smile on my face and I hope it brightens your day as well.

Synthesis: I think this event just shows how comfort and unity can lighten the load during times of struggle and sadness. I think we all must turn to each other and our dogs and appreciate all the good while it's here.
