It has been said that some companies have decided to close their doors on the election day, to allow their employees to go out and vote. Certain companies, like General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Patagonia, are making this a paid holiday for their employees. But other companies offer unpaid leave to their workers during this time. Overall, their is no federal law that enforces this. But the states' laws help to determine what is required.
I think this idea of making the election day a time to "close up shop" is a pretty good idea overall. When you muse about it, the election is one of the single most important things to our country's future. So the people who help decide this fate should have at least one day to finalize this decision. Paid or unpaid, it's still good to be offered a day off for a task like so.
This situation, in a way, kind of connects to the ideas of the Anti-Federalists. This whole thing would not be happening if the states did not have the power to do things, such as create their own laws permitting this. Therefore, reinforcing the Anti-Federalists' ideas and beliefs.

I agree with you, this election is one for the history books. Everyone should go out and vote either way but, this election has gotten more people to vote than ever before.
ReplyDeleteThis election reminds me of the last one, but it's a lot more.. dangerous. Hopefully this election will go well.
ReplyDeleteAmerica has made it harder for a lot of people (mostly minorities) to vote, yet these might be the most important votes. Companies that do this really show that they care about their employees' opinion and future, since these are the people that are carrying their companies.

Kiri Luckey: I feel thats great that they are closing on election day because this election is very crucial and it is very important that people have a chance to vote because every vote counts and has a huge impact on the election.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion! Voting is such an important American duty which is very prominent in the election right now.
ReplyDeleteA friend of my parents told me she hadn't been much aware of politics and elections until now, because of all the scandals and drama created by these candidates she has become more aware, so in a way Trump has gotten peoples attention either for the better or worse of America.
