Summary: Bethany Thompson commits suicide after being bullied at school. She has survived brain cancer, with a surgery that shapes her mouth different.
Analysis: On October 19, 2016, Bethany went home after school and shot herself in the head. She had told her best friend many times that she would kill herself, but thus time she actually took it into action. She's not the first person to commit suicide from Triad Middle School in Ohio, and still the administrators say that there were never any signs. The kids at school were reported teasing Bethany about her smile, the day she died. After her surgery in her brain, her mouth was shaped differently and people teased her. Before Bethany died, she would put up anti- bullying posters that would get torn down by administrators who said that they, "weren't positive."
Synthesis: You may not think people tease others with as serious conditions as Bethany's, but they do. Bullying is all around us, and it takes you to be the bigger person and tell someone. This is repeated everywhere , all the time, but it has to be within you to do what's right. Either a victim, bystander or even the bully, don't be afraid to speak up and get help.

It's so sad that people of such a young age are taking their lives before they even get to live. It's ironic because she gets this surgery to stay alive and healthy and ends up taking her life. Bullying needs to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteKiri Lickey: This is so sad! This bullying others needs to stop, because it is seriously leading children and teens to suicide!
ReplyDeleteThis is extremely sad to hear, especially since she just survived cancer. It's always the people that you don't expect since she was so happy and very supportive of the no bullying.
ReplyDeleteThis saddened me so much. Words cannot describe how much my heart hurts for her and her family. Bullying is such an important topic to discuss but unfortunately it is hard to change the wickedness in people's hearts which is the stem of all the hatred.
