Dalton Wolfe- Two NYPD Officers Shot and One Killed in Bronx

This afternoon when two NYPD officers approached a suspect in an ongoing home invasion a shooting broke out as the suspect fired at the police. As the shots were exchanged one officer was killed and the other injured. The NYPD has stated that the suspect was killed in the shooting. According to the  National Officers Memorial fund 52 or more law enforcement officers have been killed in the United States and Puerto Rico making the law enforcement death toll the highest it has been in the past 5 years since 2011 when 73 law enforcement officers were killed.

Urban Violence has become a major epidemic within the United States and around the world far more so than in recent years however because of how the media has changed over the past decade it has become more and more reported on  and has begun influencing the minds of all those whom consume it and even those who attempt to avoid the news. We must remember that although these tragedies are occurring the United States is not spiraling down into a pit of destruction and neither is the world. Urban Violence in previous decades has been just as, if not more horrifying. It is also important that everyone remembers that there is no division between law enforcement officers and the people ; they are one in the same. Perhaps if we all work hard to be aware of the medias affect on our perception of the world and to try and not divide people in ANY way, we may push back on the current growing violence of our nation.

  2. Exactly, Urban violence was just as horrifying during Al Capone's valentines day massacre in 1929, as it is today with shootout involving modern gangs.
