The 'Debate' For and Against Vaccines - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

In the article, the so called "debate" for vaccines is brought up once again. The Jacks family was concerned that their 10 month old son had contracted the measles when he started showing symptoms after being in the same hospital with someone who did have the virus. Worried that it may spread to their daughter, who was undergoing chemotherapy for Leukemia and was even more susceptible to the virus, the sibling's mother wrote a blog post on her views about vaccinations .
Responding to the blog post, was Dr. Jack Wolfson, who refuses to vaccinate his own children, who stated, "If a child is so vulnerable like that, they shouldn't be going out into society."

This relates back to the first use of vaccines in the 1800's in the US, when smallpox vaccines were becoming mandatory. The Vaccination Acts of 1853 and 1867 were met with the formation of several anti-vaccination societies that wanted to protect people's rights, as well as their children's, to protect their own bodies. However today, while these beliefs still carry on, many are still exposed to viruses such as the measles, and is still more 'debate' than proven fact.
