Just this past Sunday, a football game went down in American NFL history. The Seattle Seahawks were at a head to head battle against the Pittsburgh Patriots. Thousands of people were present in the stadium, while millions watched at home. Idina Menzel opened the game with an astounding rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" while Americans everywhere placed their hands over their hearts. In the first half of the game, the Seahawks were ahead 24-14. Katy Perry gave a performance of a lifetime during her 13 minute half time, opening with a mechanical lion and closing with fireworks that resembled some sort of July 4th in the February, and her flying across the stadium. In the second half, the Patriots kept the audience on the edges of their seats, as they gained on the Seahawks. In the end, the Patriots won the XLIX Superbowl 28-24, and Americans everywhere rejoiced.
I think that the Superbowl is something like America's Thanksgiving. It's a day where the nation comes together and watches a sport, cheering for their favorite teams. However, instead of giving thanks for their blessings, people got on social media to connect with others on game stats and to cheer their teams on. I find it extremely amusing and a little heart-warming that a nation could come together over a sport. Football is an American sport, and we are proud of it. During the national anthem, you can see the reverence shown on people's faces while they pay their respects for their country. If the Superbowl can unite a country, bring people together, and stir patriotism among the citizens, I think that this tradition should be able to and should last as long as possible.

I agree with your comparison and also great job putting it into writing! I'm glad a sport can unite a country socially and patriotically.
