Presidential Budget Proposal - Lindsey Galvan p.4

Yesterday President Obama proposed the 4 trillion 2016 Budget Plan for America. President Obama looks to place higher taxes on people who make more than 500,000 dollars a year and to cut taxes for all people in the middle class. Obama calls this "Middle Class Economics" and believes it will help the middle class come up. Of course, Republicans believe otherwise and will have to come to an agreement on this budget plan soon.

This relates to United States History because Obama's beliefs can be found similar to those of Andrew Carnegie. In the Gospel of Wealth, he wrote  a man who accumulates great wealth has a duty to use his surplus wealth for "the improvement of mankind" in philanthropic causes. A "man who dies rich dies disgraced." And in Obama's Proposal, he believes in the wealthy to support America while others get the chance to catch up, resulting in a better economy.

  1. Nice connection! Many people tend to overlook Carnagie as a person who really did give back to America, seeing him more as a steel mogul, instead of a philanthropist.
