I can not express how happy this makes me. I believe that same sex couples do have the legal right to be married to the person they love. I do not believe that someone's religious beliefs should dictate how others live their lives and I am very glad to see us working past that, even if only in one more state. This has been seen throughout history with women, african americans, and other religions/races. As a country, we have worked thorough treating these specific groups of people the way they should be treated, and I believe that we are slowly getting there with the LGBT community.

Same-sex couples wed in Alabama Heather McKay
Federal law in Alabama now states that same sex couples now have the right to be married. Though the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama cleared the way for same-sex marriages to begin Monday in Alabama, the famously conservative chief justice of the state Supreme Court on Sunday attempted a last minute effort to stop the weddings, instructing probate judges not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. However, despite this attempt, more than 100 same sex couples were happily married with permeant marriage licenses.

This makes me very happy but I'll admit that I'm shocked. I would never have guessed that Alabama, a state full of conservatives, would pass the legislation.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I agree with you there, Jack. Hopefully more states will follow in their footsteps, though!
