DC Issues First Gun-Carry Permits by Joelle Gnikpingo, 2nd period

The District of Columbia now has eight people that have concealed permits to carry a gun. But there are more people that have been denied than approved.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) had to adopt a legal framework for people to carry guns because the judge declared the previous ban on arms was unconstitutional. The City Council set up a program where there was 18 hours of training requirements, $110 application fee, and they had to prove to the City Officials why they needed a gun. About 69 people have applied, but 8 were accepted.

Analysis:

The second amendment is the right to bear arms and the Founding Fathers made the Bill of Rights in order for the people to have their basic rights given to them without a tyrannical figure to tell them not to. By putting a ban on gun carrying, DC is limiting the people's rights of the Constitution.

  1. I'm glad that there are more restrictions on these powerful weapons.
