Mother Nature Doesn't care - Francesca Bartos 2nd
The author of this article brings up a very interesting fact, nature does not have an opinion on wether we live or die. He brings up the recent mudslide and tornadoes that killed people in America last month. Nature is indifferent to our struggles, it is a massive force that was here before us and will survive us. The thing about environmental protection is, we are not attempting to protect the environment, we are protecting ourselves by trying to conserve the parts of nature that make it habitable to us. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/05/03/opinion/our-lonely-home-in-nature.html?from=opinion

That is one of the reasons why I love nature: it holds so much power and is yet so beautiful. Man may try to tame nature or eliminate it, but it will always be there, whether it be a force of destruction or creation.
ReplyDeleteI love your last sentence there, Francesca. I never thought about it that way but it's totally true
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on what the environmental protection consists of, for example yes and oilspill in a lake or other freshwater sources would affect our water supplies, but it would also affect aquatic wildlife. Pollution in general not only affects us, but the species that surround us, and I think it's importance to recognize that when participating in environmental protection efforts that it's not only for us (even though it's main purpose may be for our benefit).
