So this article is about a hazing that recently happened at the University of Connecticut, or UConn. The victim, a sophomore transfer student from the University of Hawaii, claims members of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma and fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon forced her to drink copious amounts of alcohol and perform demeaning tasks in front of large groups of people. She said upon entering the fraternity house, where her sisters had lured her with the promise of a surprise, she found three young women blindfolded and another who like her, was not. The five girls were then commanded to sizzle like bacon and do other things of that nature while proclaiming their love for sisterhood in front of a crowd. She was then forced to consume unhealthy amounts of alcohol. The last thing she remembers before waking up in the hospital in different clothes from the previous day, was being coerced into playing beer pong. The University is thoroughly investigating the victim's claims and say they have a zero tolerance for hazing and those responsible will be held accountable. The accused students and their affiliated sorority or fraternity have declined to comment.
Hazing is such a horrible epidemic today. What's even worse is that often the victim is ostracized or even condemned for speaking out. This particular victim has been ridiculed for not leaving sooner while fellow students have become upset at her aptness to expose her ordeal. This is really sad because hearing about the adversity she faced after coming foreword may discourage other victims from coming foreword. The school claims they will take the necessary measures to ensure those responsible will be held accountable. but I hope they also make some kind of attempt to aid the victim in her struggle and make sure other students feel safe to come foreword and share similar experiences.

Increased media attention towards hazing will deter others from instigating hazings. If the students responsible for the hazings are caught it will not only dissuade other hazings, but also give people more courage to make authorities aware of hazings they had previously been too fearful to disclose.
