What's next for Trump Tariffs - Faith Wangermann

In an article by Jim Tankersley and Jeanna Smialek, published by the New York Times on May 13, 2019, the future of President Trump's planned tariffs is outlined. Trump has threatened to raise tariffs to about $300 billion worth of goods, nearly every product China sends to the US. Trump is unsure if he will impose the tariffs, but the process for that to happen has begun, showing that he is likely to implement them. The list of possibly taxed products spans 4,000 product categories, including things like coffee makers, hair dryers, clothes, TVs, and other items. The developments of these tariffs is similar to the Tariff of Abominations in 1828 that made the country angry and did not actually fulfill its intended purpose.

  1. I believe the imposing of these tariffs to be a brash and ill-advised decision that will likely hurt our economy, and further heighten tensions on an already unstable world stage.
