NASA chose the name Artemis as the name for the new US lunar program, Twitter said.
"Artemis: Apollo's twin sister and goddess of the Moon. Now this is the name of our program for the return of NASA astronauts to the moon's surface by 2024, including the landing of the first woman and another man there," the message said.
Earlier, the head of NASA, Jim Brandenstein said that the additional 1.6 billion dollars, which requested the budget of NASA, US President Donald Trump, will go among other things to the moon program. According to him, these funds will help speed up the development of the lunar rocket and the launch complex. In addition, the study of the polar regions of the moon will be expanded with the help of automatic stations.
In March, the vice president of the United States at a meeting of the National Space Council of the United States announced that President Donald Trump had ordered American astronauts to be sent to the moon for five years. Pence said that "Americans will be the next man and the first woman on the moon," and ordered to do so in 2024 by any means.
I think it is really important to discover our space. Well, US needs to spend a lot of money for it though. But I think it is still really important thing to do people ready for it and if they have an opportunity. It is a crazy thing though to realize that those people will be gone for 5 years but how I know it is going to be much quicker for them in space. I'm glad to see people's desire to discover more and I remember this powerful desire started during the space race between US and Soviet Union.
