Here's a rare something that crosses political party lines: religion in America is waning. While abandonment of organized religion is occurring at a much faster rate amongst Democrats and other parties compared to Republicans, within the last three years, membership to organized religion has plummeted.
Now, as a devout Episcopalian, I was initially upset by this, but I realized that this isn't a bad thing. Canada and much of Western Europe have significantly lower numbers of religious people than America, and according to this new study, Democrats have the same relative amount of religiousness as Great Britain.
This is a stark contrast to American history. We've had two Great Awakenings and thousands of laws passed that poked large holes in the separation of church and state.
Here's the thing: the Bible doesn't belong in our constitution. The constitution rules over all Americans, and the Bible only rules over people who choose to live their lives in God. Maybe this new trend means that America is finally getting its head out of its butt and is opening its eyes to running a legitimately secular government.
