An enormous cloud of polluted air has been stationed aboved Mexico City for a couple of days. This sudden decrease of air quality is said to have been caused by multiple wildfires that emitted large amounts of smoke and ash. Residents were encouraged to stay indoors and prohibited to go outside to perform any form of exercise. The city's elementary schools were also closed and drivers were told to stay off the roads. Due to the increase of extreme air pollution, the city has issued a climate emergency.
Within the past couple of decades, the country of Mexico has always had somewhat moderate to bad air quality. However, as time passed on, it is continuing to get increasingly worse. The people of Mexico are suffering from respiratory issues and illnesses now more than ever before, and the need to wear a mask while outside has become required to everyone. Fortunately, Mexico is beginning to implement carbon dioxide absorbing methods to combat the extreme air pollution. For example, the pillars of the city's busiest highways will soon be converted into vertical gardens to absorb the carbon emissions from the cars.
